Topic : ABSOLUTE DISGRACE |
|
_Andy_ |
I know this is a frequent topic but I really need to comment on the absolutely appalling state of the roads in and around the schools - in terms of dog muck. Aire View, Elliott Street, Hothfield, and others. All seem to be getting worse over the last few weeks. Our little boy is in a wheelchair and we struggle to get him to school without having to bob and weave around piles - literally every few yards. What will happen if we hit one and then he touches it ? Our youngest boy wasnt so lucky and I've had the "pleasure" of cleaning a pair of shoes tonight. What has to happen for someone to pick up this issue seriously - does a child have to get seriously poorly, or worse before something happens ??? |

Andy you are right about it being a disgrace, but nothing ever happens. The council (Bradford I think) spent thousands of pounds dishing out t-shirts to kids, they should have spent the money paying overtime to the police to catch some of the people responsible. A few £1000 fines would have made an example and sent out a message. Councils in other parts of the country have taken robust action, and it works. |

it is very annoying (im a responsible dog owner) i dont like standing in it either poop bags are so cheap too about £1 for a hundred from wilko's or home bargains Some people dont like picking up poop even in a poop bag fine in my opinion dont have a dog then if you want the plus points of dog ownership you have to put up with the minus negative points too I cant say i relish picking it up but it has to be done |

Now the dark mornings and evenings are here, the problem as escalated. Have noticed along some of our regular routes that there are more and more piles of the stuff. One route takes along the snicket from Lower Park Green to Skipton Road, it's a disgrace. Some bright spark thinks it is o.k. to throw their full bags through the fence behind the sub station, getting totally out of hand. I have never seen anyone do this, but it seems to be a regular occurence. One day I hope to catch someone in the throes of disposing of the dog bags, I shall follow them home, go back and collect, then deposit them on their doorstep. They don't seem adverse to littering up other peoples areas, so why be bothered about their own. If you can't be bothered to pick up, DON'T have a dog. |

There are hundreds of dogs in Silsden, and 95% of the owners are responsible people who clean up the poop, it's the 5% who don't care who need sorting out. It still leaves a lot of poop on the streets. The "Dob in a dealer" campaign works for the police because you can call anonymously and shop a dealer in drugs, but amazingly you can't do it with dog poopers! You have to go through a ridiculous procedure before anyone will act to collar (sorry about the pun)the offenders. |

We have a dog and walk it on the fields off Skipton Road. We see the same issue. People who have a dog and dont clear it up. Perhaps dog owners should think about the recent poisionings? May be this is the reason it happened? I am not saying its right to do this sort of thing. But, dog owers need to think. |

Extract from the STC Newsletter Dog fouling continues to be a problem with the few dog owners allowing their animals to foul the footpaths in the Town. There has been a campaign initiated by the Keighley Area Committee which is on going and due to end in November. |

Have sent an email to the contacts on aforementioned STC newsletter - let's hope they are able to help. |

No excuse for not being able to see it. They could buy a torch. I bought a small LED from Yeomans, rubber casing, fits easily into pocket. No more guess work.I think it was about £3.00, so along with pound shop poo bags, we're well set up. Only trouble is, I'm fast running out of pocket space!!! |

Jolleys sell a torch with an integrated poo bag holder AND a clip to clip it to your belt!!!! I know! Its amazing! My dog learned to do his business in the garden at an early age - he only does it in public if i miss time the walk (and i carry my torchy baggy thing anyway) |

As a responsible dog owner it infuriates me that people do not pick up after their dogs - i came home this evening to find a pile of it at the bottom of my driveway and walked straight through it on the way to my front door - luckily i noticed before i covered our carpets in it! We have lots of children on our road and it appals me that people don't consider this before deciding to walk away from the mess their dog has made ![]() |

I dont walk around town much but I walked up Howden road this morning and I can see what you are all getting at.I had my dog with me and it would make me sick if He did anything and I did not pick it up. |

Suspect it is a lost cause (as Peter says). I never even got a reply from the emails sent to the council. Everyone from the council seemed happy enough to get involved when there was a photo opportunity to prevent the waste site (which was never going to happen and they knew it - hence an obvious win) but no politician wants to get involved with dog-sh*t.... Silsden deserves better. ![]() |

It's all about taking action www.spilsbyonline.co.uk/news/District-Council-To-Clamp-Down-On-Dog-Owners-Who-Dont-Clear-Up Some councils care, and do something about it, not here in Silsden, despite us all wanting some action! |

I bet if some one put some poison down like they did in xhills (I think it was strychnine)that killed all those dogs you wuold see all the counsellors out trying to get there names and photos in the papers so in short its only direct action that works. |

I am a responsible dog owner. I'm against fouling in public places. Yet I was surprised at my own response to an elderly gent walking his dog in the park. The dog was without a lead and did a poo. It's owner did not pick up. I didn't offer too either as it was obviously very loose. This gent could not bend down let alone deal with this issue. A bucket with water in may have helped which is what I have done with my own dog. Sometimes not a lot can be done, can it!! |

well if you cannot cope then you should not have a dog. owning one has responsibilities. otherwise is parking ok on double lines as well they couldnt walk far. or they are only children so they dont know it is wrong to drop litter! |
![]() |

HB Yes! if you are disbled and have a blue badge so long as it isn't causing an obstruction you can park on double yellow lines, but not on the zig zag one at pedestian crossings. |

HB |
so a blue badge holder can let thier dog poo every where!? |
