Topic : irresponsible dog owners spoil village |
|
| carolyn |
this post has been edited 1 time(s) We were delighted to have visitors from Australia to show them our pretty village and surrounding areas. Yes, they thought the beck and old cottages were wonderful, but what an embarrassment - dog fouling everyhwere, especially around the bridge area - they said they had never seen anything so filthy and were scared to take their eyes off the pavements for fear of treading in dog mess. Why don't you lazy dog owners take pride and a little time in taking care of our environment - if you can't - then get rid of the dog which honestly you are not being fair to, so we can all enjoy and be proud of our village!! |

this post has been edited 2 time(s) Carolyn, We have had this thread so many times before, yet there is still no improvement in the situation. Some of the strongest comments have come from dog owners, those of us that are responsible. I fully agree with your comments, but the WHOLE of Silsden is very badly affected, and also with plenty of other human disgarded rubbish.Snow, dark nights and mornings have certainly increased the problem. Not only with not picked up mess, but also the bagged variety. A number of site users placed notices along their walks, only for them to be torn down. I know that from experience. What the answer to this is I do not know, only to say, if anyone is seen not cleaning up, ask if they need a bag, and reminding them that it is an offence to not do so. I firmly believe that, if an owner won't be responsible for their dog, ( it's their dog, they feed it, therefore it's their mess)the dog should be removed, and the owner banned from pet ownership. Tough Justice. P.S Thanks for that link Alan, have used it. Whether there will be anything done, I doubt it, having tried by phone on numerous occasions. FOBBED OFF came to mind!!!! |

there are 2 possible choices now:- 1. Get the PCSO's to take action and issue fixed penalty fines 2. Employ a dog warden out of our rates, and get him/her to do the same A few "named and shamed" dog owners will soon get the message out there that the town has had enough. That's my suggestion....any others? |

Only this morning I walked up to Silsden Reservoir and was shocked at the amount of dog mess on the pavement. Not nice! |

What I cannot understand is the dog owners who pick up and bag their dog poo, then throw the bag into the hedgerow, whats that all about ? Take a walk down the canal from the Bridge to Brunthwaite, there must be barrow loads of it dangling in the hedge. |

Whats the chances of getting the Keighley News to run a piece? |
|
| alan |
Phone 'em and ask them ![]() Only trouble is the irresponsible dog owners probably can't read! |
|
| roosterman |
weve had this argument before,if at all possible, catch them on a camera/camera phone and put it on you tube,i walk quite a few dogs everyday, doesnt take 10 seconds to take a nappy sack out of your pocket and pick the poo up |
|
| carliol |
this post has been edited 1 time(s) so what you are saying "roosterman" is that we should all clean up after these people, and let them carry on? mmmmmm....not sure!maybe I've read your words wrong? I like the photo idea, but if we are serious we should have wardens/PCSOs making criminals of these people, and hitting their pockets as well. It's a question of taking things seriously, it won't go away otherwise, I'm afraid. |

The time of year when it's difficult to see your dog let alone pick anything up... not that this is an excuse not to pick it up. The practice of stuffing bags in walls is worse than leaving it on the ground unbagged, a least if it is unbagged it gets washed away, or dries up within a few days. I seem to remember the promise of bins for the canal path at a meeting (the Bradford Dog Man attended) We were supposed to get new bins for the canal path at the Bridge Inn and Brunwhaite Bridge. We are still waiting ![]() ![]() |

no,im saying,if you spot somebody whose dog is doing a poo,you can always tell the people who arent going to pick the muck up is because they are either looking around to see if they are being watched or they will try and drag the dog along on the lead,or if the dog is of the lead, they will simply just walk the other way, what i am saying is,if you are in a position to be able to take a photo,do so,then either put it on you tube or go to the keighley news and get it printed, wardens are useless,i was once in a park in keighley when a fella just stood and let is dog do a poo,10seconds later a warden came past me on is bike,so i told him what had happened,he went by the fella and didnt do nothing |

This is the sort of action we need, other local authorities are taking this issue seriously, and are making sure that people are employed to sort out people who don't care about their community...why can it not happen in Silsden? Extract from local newspaper:- Two Carlisle residents have been fined the £350 maximum for allowing their dogs to foul on public land. Beth Foster, 17, of Holywell Crescent, Botcherby and Nicola McEwan, 38, of Blackwell Road, Currock were prosecuted by Carlisle City Council. The two separate cases were heard by Carlisle Magistrates’ Court. Neither defendant attended the hearing, nor entered a plea, so both were found guilty in their absence. The first incident was on July 3 last year, when the council’s clean neighbourhood enforcement officers witnessed Foster’s black crossbreed dog foul near the children’s play area at Melbourne Park. She was with the dog but failed to clean up the mess it had made. In the second incident, on July 8, officers witnessed a Rottweiler dog, accompanied by McEwan, foul at Hammond’s Park. She also failed to clean up. Magistrates’ fined both women £350, ordered them to pay costs of £75 each, plus a £15 victim surcharge. Ray Bloxham, portfolio holder for environment and infrastructure, said: “We want to encourage the public to take pride in their communities. Hopefully these prosecutions will emphasise the message that we are taking this issue seriously. |

Dog fouling is the topic that MPs recieve the most mail about. It is a national problem. There is a general election coming up. If everyone: a: writes to their local MP about dog fouling b: writes to the leader of each party about dog fouling then something, might? happen. By the way, Gordon Brown prefers cats, not sure about the rest. |

After lunch today, took a walk over to Bradley Road via the waste land. Around the lower half, a post and rail fence had been erected some time ago. Quite a considerable amount is missing, but there are still 4, yes 4 very large notices in situ...No Fouling....Plus a waste bin. In which case there shouldn't be a pile of poo to be seen. This is the worst area I have come across on my walks. Disgusting doesn't even come near to explaining just how bad the situation is there. Having said that, on the banking next to Bradley Road, is the biggest informal bottle bank you are likely to see anywhere. The usual green variety, also the regulation take-away cartons to accompany them. Maybe the time as come to target litter louts in general. They do come in all shapes and sizes, and obviously with no thought or pride for/ or in anything. |

I know this is going off topic but the Green off Bradley Road (or wasteland as golden oldie calls it) has become a complete eyesore. Thanks to a succession of Bonfires and Fairs, not to mention the local numpties,it has become a dump. The fences might as well be taken out completley, finishing the work that the idiots have started. If something looks like a Tip and dog toilet then that is how some people will treat it. |
|
| alan |
Saw on TV that there are now 10 million dogs in the UK! If we pro-rata that in Silsden there would be about 1,500 dogs. That sure is some poo! |
|
| Peter |
The ultimate solution? All dogs should be identified by chip and have their DNA taken..... and then.... ![]() ![]() www.thelocal.de/article.php?ID=17753&print=true The streets might be poop free ![]() |
|
| alan |
All dogs should be chipped anyway first thing we always do............. |

quoteAll dogs should be chipped anyway first thing we always do............. But there isn't a law which says you have to chip your dog, and you would need a DNA register to match up with the dogs details. |

Should be compulsory............ |

I think some people are losing the point of this thread. It shouldnt be about whether dog owners "do the right thing" (of course, they should) and it shouldnt be about whether people should report them (who would feel safe doing that, in this day and age). No, this is both illegal activity and a health issue. Walk round Elliott St, Aire View and Hothfield St. The situation around the schools is terrible. Then, go to the park and its worse. OUR CHILDREN PLAY & WALK THERE ! Why arent the powers that be doing more. Come on, time to step up ! |
|
| alan |
Have you told "The Powers That Be"? |
|
| ilyama |
Dont they monitor this site ? surely from this they can see the feeling around the issue and be proactive and pick it up? |
|
| alan |
We live in a community and should be prepared to do our own bit, and not expect the dog warden or whoever to pick up the feelings on a local forum! Use this link to report your feelings www.bradford.gov.uk/bmdc/contact_us/online_forms/dog_warden_form.htm?referer={f3df254b-eb3a-43a4-aa31-dae10397c1c7}&noemail=1 |

But surely the members of the council read these posts and can see the groundswell of opinion ? Surely they have a collective "clout" which would be more powerful than individual contacts ? Im not saying I wont do this but why arent the council picking it up as an issue. Looking at the posts on here its probably the biggest issue. Possibly because it wont make a good headline for the next town newsletter ? |
|
| skippy |
ilyama why do you think the town council should do something? YOU as an individual have as much clout as the town council, help them to help you, dont just knock them.ward councillors are paid to do such things , chastise them first then ask the town council to help if they dont work we work damned hard on your behalf without pay all names and contact details are here on . net for the 3 paid ward councillors i hope this helps you and others |
|
| carliol |
I think ilyama's point is that the town council is elected by the people of the town, and when they become aware of an issue which most people feel strongly about, the council should take action. If they can't, they should tell us exactly what the blockage is, and then other ways must be found. Other local authorities are clearly fed up with this problem, and are doing something about it. Am I missing something here? |

I have just fired off an email to the Dog Warden at Bradford as per the suggested link, so let's see what happens! |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) i am a dog owner i always clean up after my dog and have children who are at one of the schools . When walking to school on a morning i find myself telling my daughter watch that poo several times !!!!!!!!!! Try telling the dog warden i have and they don't want to know ! People have put posters up round the school and it's like red rag to a bull more dog cr*p than ever ! Really don't know what to do from here it don't look like it's ever gonna change !!!!!!!! |

Ive been for a walk this aft and coming down Howden Rd on the left side there are patches of grass by each tree and each of these patches was full yes full of dog sh*te iwas ashamed at what i saw ,not only that just a bit lower down, between the shop and wqaterside entrance there is another patch oe grass and there was EVEN more of the aforsaid sh*te, some one who lives near there must know the culprits i now think that we as residents must keep an eye out for the sh*t machines responcible, rant over for a while |
|
| carliol |
go carefully BobT, in this age of Human Rights and all that, citizens have to be careful what they do to protect their communities/ houses/families! If we dare to identify these people, stop them or speak to them, we could be prosecuted! I'm only half joking! |
|
| claraclutterbuck |
Like i said in my last post i am a dog owner i felt embarrased when walking back from the vets the other day with my dog when she decided to do one litrally meters away from home ( the invasive procedure at the vets prob didn't help) i picked it up but felt so guilty she had done it out in public and don't think i should feel like this it's only because of the lazy G*ts that don't pick it up !!!! Something needs to be done !!!!!!!!! |
