This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Does anyone have any history on this large house on Hainsworth Road? Presumably it's a family name given to the road and the house. I remember some friends living in it when we were teenages but i think they rented part of it. Is it owned/rented as a full house now or as flats?

it can be seen to the bottom right of this picture from 1928:

Interesting picture.
Now 4 flats, let out by the farmer/his family who still own the house. Land around developed for private housing.

Are there any pictures of the old gas works or any history relating to this works. There's an old house on the gas works site, was this part of the original works?

Thanks for that. Seen the pics from this site previously. The Ancestor site is members only unfortunately. I think the house dates back to around 1900 but the gas works was planned around 1875 but gas was supplied from Kildwick until around 1900.

Hainsworth House was owned by Joseph King from the early 1900s until about 1930 when he moved to Thorlby House, Stirton, outside Skipton My mother Kathleen King was born there and married my father Anthony Crabtree of Addingham from the house. Joseph King, who was born in Cowling, owned West Lane Mills also known as King's Mill in Keighley
