WHEN is something going to be done about the crossing by the Bookies? For the fourth time I have had a near miss with an idiot of a driver (not the same one ) 1st time... a silly old fool sat facing the passenger seat chatting to his wife, didn't even see us. 2nd time... a taxi driver overtook the car that had stopped for me to cross heading towards Keighley Road. 3rd time...young woman obviously in a rush to get to work, overtook on the inside of car that came out of Clog Bridge to turn into Kirkgate. 4th time this morning..lady stopped heading towards Keighley Road, taxi came over the bridge didn't slow down shot straight in front of me and the dogs. Wish I had taken his operating number, I would have reported him. Something needs doing there before someone injured or worse. |

I have had similar experiences, and beleive me I am hardly the sort of person that easily blends into the background. I am not sure if people are not concetrating on the road or what the problem is but it is rare to try and cross and actually be seen. A friend of mine was clipped by a car whilst crossing, luckily they were only bruised but the standard of driving seems to be getting worse all the time. Have you tried contacting the police, alhtough when i have tried to on other traffic issues there has been little repsonse. I wonder what would happen if we were to document each time there was a near miss, could they take notice? |

Isn't there a CCTV camera within a few yards which should be filming all this? I agree that it is a dangerous place, approach with extreme care, except when the lollipop lady is there ![]() |

There is, but is it monitored? Who has access to the tapes if it not monitored? Is it facing the crossing? If only we knew. |

It's not just Silsden crossings - it happens everywhere. Even as a driver I notice the fact that a lot of other drivers either seem unaware of their requirement to stop, or ignore it. And even if they do stop, they'll set off again once the crossee has passed the front of their car. Taxis need reporting to the local licencing office as well as Police. Bri |

Feel sure that if this was happening in certain parts of Keighley, this would be addressed. Problems arise when they come through Silsden, same stupidity applies on our roads. Sorry to moan, was extremely shook up by this latest brush with a 4 wheeled killing machine. |

I think from now on each time it happens to me I am going to put a note in the police box in the post office. Hopefully if they are inundated with incidents they will have to take some notice. On a tenuously related note i followed a driver this morning and for about a mile and half they were brushing their hair ![]() As I drive regularly at the same times and locations I see a lot of bad driving and have been the victim of all sorts of crazy over taking stunts and tailgating by the same old drivers. I agree it is not confined to Silsden but we are not being listened to around traffic issues. It is quite frustrating. |

Have you noticed the lack of paint on the zebra crossings and general road disrepair at the moment? Nothing will be done until the end of June / July because Kirgate is going to be resurfaced. x-ref www.silsden.net/forum/philboard_read.asp?id=4068 The x-ref post does give you a name of someone to contact. ![]() |

Hi I agree re this crossing & have another perspective re turning right out of Clog Bridge when it's busy which is much of the time. Often you have to nip out quickly (ie accelerating) & then brake suddenly as someone steps out onto the crossing. You're watching traffic from 3 directions & given how close you are to pedestrians crossing it's an accident waiting to happen. Please note I'm not justifying lack of attention when driving or lack of courtesy to pedestrians on crossings. I think I'm careful & courteous but have still found myself faced with this situation & it's not good for the pedestrian(s) or me ![]() |

Realise that it must be hair raising to have to turn out of Clog Bridge to the right. Have never had problems with any driver at any time, they are usually the ones that stop for us. Yes, this is a bad junction all the way round, your eyes are all over the place. Just wish the ones going in a straight line would show the same consideration that Clog Bridge users do. Time for action here me thinks. |

That junction is a mess. As previously said, the white lines and the crossing markings are difficult to see. The whole are needs resurfacing. This would remove the joints in the different asphalts and then re-marking with quality line marking. Then best of all, a 20MPH speed limit ![]() ![]() |

a project for our new independent councillor maybe? |

I would be in favour of one from the library to the Shell garage |

....the best answer is to get the By-Pass built as quickly as possible and get the though traffic out of the town! Lets give Kirkgate back to the people who live here! |

quotea project for our new independent councillor maybe? Sigh! For those that do not click on links to other posts: Andy Whelan in Highway Maintenance, is intending to arrange for contactors to undertake surface dressing works on the A6034 Kirkgate, Silsden & Brook Street, Ilkley on either Sunday 17th June, Sunday 24th June or Sunday 1st July 2012. Don't say you haven't been warned........ |

I know all about the resurfacing work, I do click on other links! I meant that maybe cllr naylor could push for some improvement to the junction or moving of the zebra crossing, it is in a very dangerous place and I too along with numerous other people I know have nearly come to grief there, it is in the wrong place |
![]() |
Peter |
Sorry ginjo. I know from the survey the Clog Bridge/Kirkgate juction and the Bell Square/Bolton Rd juctions are high on the list for something to be done to improve them. I also know they are at the top (or near the top) of the list for improvement when money is allocated - and there is the problem... money. Hopefully Mr Naylor will be able to extract some funds from the new Bradford Council. |

That's a long way off, get some warnings up that the area is being monitored by CCTV ( if it works) and ask the PCSO's to have a presence at regular intervals to press the message home. Let's have some action now, before someone gets hurt. |

Moving the crossing will not stop people from crossing the road there, if you don’t believe me go to Skipton watch people crossing at the end of Keighley Rd, over forty years ago there used to be three crossings at this junction, they were removed and the pelican crossings installed further away from the ends of the roads. Also beware of them installing lights at the end of Elliott St, that will open woodside rd to housing development. |

what about moving the crossing so its outside the cafe and doing away with that bus stop, we don't need a stop there there is one by the library which is not too far away. This would still assis drivers getting out of clog bridge as there would be a gap in traffic when cars are stopped, put a yellow box junction in so drivers don't block the junction |
![]() |
Bricol |
I am slightly amused to think drivers that don't stop for pedestrians on a zebra crossing won't block a marked box junction, of course after not exceeding the 30 limit . . ![]() Bri |

People tend to walk, and cross roads where it is most logical. Also the bus stop there is well used as the buses operate a one way system. Now the cafe and bank across the road have closed there are fewer idiots blocking the road off. |

How’s this for a radical idea, all drivers must be qualified up to advanced standard, tested every five years; with a full medical, anybody who fails test or medical can’t drive again for two years, anybody who has a collision deemed to be their fault goes back to being a learner on “L” plates with supervision until test passed again, no penalty points for driving offences just take their licences off them, with all of this there will only be good drivers left on the roads so problems like this and many others will go away. |

And while we are at it: All parents have to passed a fitness test before conception so that there are no bad kids, or drivers born. All dog owners must have passed a dog training exam, before getting their dog, and then when they have a dog be tested with it every five years. Anyone using a ladder must have a certificate of competence and be tested every five years. Before being able to cross a road one must be able to recite the green cross code, backwards, upside down resting on ones head. |

Slightly more seriously - do kids still do the Green Cross Code and Cycling Proficiency at school anymore? Might explain some of their interesting road safety ideas if they don't. Bri |
