IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Papering over cracks! |

Time will tell. There are levels marked on the road so it looks like they will do a bit more than a surface dressing. It's a pity they didn't do the job properly the first time when the crossing was put there (the dip was there then but not so bad). Now they will have to repair the road and repaint the lines - again. I wonder why the road is collapsing there? |

Could the culvert be collapsing ? ![]() |

What culvert? Your map shows the beck which has a substantial bridge over the top. BTW I looked at the sewer map and couldn't see anything which would cause the problem. |

A culvert may be a bridge-like structure designed to allow vehicle or pedestrian traffic to cross over the waterway while allowing adequate passage for the water.Ok sorted, the bridge / culvert could be collapsing. |

Typical Bradford Council.A bridge stands for decades then they decide to strengthen the bridge because of all the lorries they will not stop coming through the town.In less than 9 years it needs sorting again. www.silsden.net/news/2008/bridgerepairs/bridgerepairs.htm#.WeBr-ohrw2w |

That dip is the least of Silsden’s problems regarding road surfacing! Woodside Road is probably the worst road in the whole of Silsden. It is a bus route and used heavily by tractors. The dips and sinks throughout the whole road surface, especially along its more level section is appalling. I was surprised that this route wasn’t totally regraded and resurfaced prior to the Tour De Yorkshire. Other sections of road were...and in my opinion weren’t really in need of resurfacing. Only yesterday a car accident happened in which two cars were written off. Whether it was partly the fault of the road surface I’m unsure, but to use this road, you must use it with caution as you will find cars regularly swerving to avoid the surprise sinkage and dips around the parked vehicles. We need the Town Council and the highways to act to get this sorted. I wonder if the Bus company has said anything? |

I think it is a vain hope, but I would like to think this time, when they repaint the keep clear sign on Bolton Rd at the end of Bell Sq, that the make it the full width of the junction. |

quote quotenot really addressing the problem is it? sunken road due to culvert collapse - pour more material on top, it'll be right Who said the dip was caused by a collapsed culvert? given that the relatively sudden (in geological terms) and pronounced dip is right above where the beck goes under the road, it has been suggested that the most likely reason is a collapse. If it's not due to this then it begs the question why the road would sink so locally in a linear fashion. we can only hope that they haven't buried a problem that might come back over winter in a more dramatic collapse such as the sinkhole recently seen in baildon, or that this is a temporary measure until a full investigation can take place |
