IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. There was a presentation given by Bradford Youth Services to STC - the following should be noted: Bradford intend to sell of the youth centre building on Elliot Street if there is no interest of intent to take it over. If you are interested in taking this on you had better get your act together and put a business plan together. We have until 1st April to express an interest in taking the building over. This seems to have been a well kept secret as apparently it was announced by Bradford that they intended to dispose of the building way back in March 2015, last year! The Youth Services budget is being cut by £600,200 At the moment the Youth Club is open on Mondays and Thursdays and is attended by about 30 on each session. The Youth Centre is not run on a commercial basis but the MUGA could be rented out and the building used for events such as parties etc or any event requiring a large single room space. At this late stage THERE IS NO PLAN B for the provision of continuing youth facilities in Silsden. There are vague promises of providing youth facilities in other buildings but there has been nothing put in place, or from what I heard last night no serious thought has been given to doing anything about youth provision in Silsden after 1st April. this post has been edited 1 time(s) quote This seems to have been a well kept secret as apparently it was announced by Bradford that they intended to dispose of the building way back in March 2015, last year! This is not a well kept secret....it is an(other) utter bare faced lie from Bradford Council and the matter needs taking further. The decision made in March 2015 was to explore different arrangements at managing the estate including Silsden Youth Centre.I am guessing since March someone from education has said lets sell the site for housing to pay for the school, hence the lie about decision making taking place last year "At its meeting held on 10 March 2015 the Council Executive considered a report from the Commissioner (Youth Provisions) detailing the findings of the Review. The Executive made the following resolutions: That exploration of alternative estate management arrangements, the options and interest is investigated for the following premises: Silsden Youth Centre in Keighley Constituency" At this point the council were supposed to look at a Community Asset Transfer "That further checks on the strength of community interest including opportunities for Community Asset Transfers be undertaken with the further report to the Executive for final decisions on how these physical assets will be dealt with." So there was no decision made last March to close the youth club, just a decision to look at options. I know some people give me stick on here for fault finding with the council but its not my opinion about the council its a fact. democracy.bradford.gov.uk/Data/150/20150422/Agenda/Report%20-%20YOUTH%20SERVICE%20-%20KEIGHLEY%20AREA.pdf This report also shows that the number of 13-19 yo worked with by the youth service in the Keighley area is highest in Silsden at almost 50% |

The bottom line. Assuming all supervision, organisation and cleaning is carried out by volunteers how much would it cost a year to run the place? Do not forget the fund that would need to set up for long term maintenance and the unexpected. |
