What the hell is going on !

The window boxes outside the Town Hall were overturned over the weekend, and the paved area next to the flower shop appears to have had its planters smashed.

Why are the authorities doing nothing about this ?

Has anybody reported this damage? If not then the powers that be can't do anything. the mess outside the Townhall has been cleaned up by out very efficient caretaker.
did anybody see who did it?

I don't believe that it was done by teenagers. Most of this type of stupid behavior is carried out by -so called- adults - who, when the drink goes in ,the wit goes out.You only have to watch the fools walking up the middle of the road challenging drivers to see that most of them are in the 20-30 age group.
I agree with you grandad, who saw it happen, who reported it.
Its about time the folk in Silsden took back their town by geting together and challenging / reporting these thugs. Get out there and support the few who are trying to do something instead of moaning about thoes who are doing their best.

i agree 'herself'.

there are a mixture of idiots that fit into both age groups, this kind of vandalism is likely to be the young uns, although it could be any one of our trouble making groups.

cctv would be a big step forward but a better police presence would also help.

here we go again, where are the cctv cameras? there seems to have been much debate about cctv and the issue has been raised several times on this forum but what has actually been done? As I understand it there is £6000 sitting in a bank somewhere (has been for several years) raised by silsden businees watch. What is the delay? My idea would be for the town council to raise the funds through a precept added to the council tax. I am sure no-one would object to say £5 as a one off specifically for cctv. I have mentioned this before but it received as usual a negative response from silsden town council, what is wrong with them??? do they like to just argue the toss amongst themeselves blaming anyone and everyone but never actually achieving anything. I know we should not have to pay extra but if it is an answer to the problem surely no-one will object.£5 a year is nothing, if that would not raise enough then make it £10. Leta have some action!!

Baldybogey.
I have read the web site, it is interesting, but you have to realies there are lots of cctv cameras in private homes, shops, and work places, the site could and probably did include all of these when it qouted 90% are illegal, it also stated one reason is that the data is not being kept secure, this only make it a problem if it is accesed outside the organisation, not if it might be, they have an egenda here!
Remember there are lies, dammed lies, and statistics.

Surely if these groups of people are intent on causing problems they would just move to an area of town where there is no CCTV.

On a similar theme I had my recycling bin upturned last night (no idea what time as I was out at the pub myself until about 11pm)there was paper, cans and broken bottles all ovet the front of my house and the street. I hadn't noticed it until this morning either. so I am just hoping nobodies dog had to walk over it during early morning walkies this morning.

A nice idea, but who would police this type of a ban ? In other towns and cities that have banned street drinking they have street wardens and more importantly a police presence. In silsden we appear to have a couple of community support officers and a street cleaner. The only time you normally see the "proper" police in Silsden is when they are tear arsing up the main street with the sirens wailing, or if you prebook a visit 24hours before a crime/incident has happened.

Oh and by the way, the "CCTV" camera above the now defunct old mans seat is I can confirm a leccy socket for the christmas decorations.

As far as I can see the only external CCTV systems in Silsden are all privately operated and can be found at

1. Toyota Garage
2. Silsden Boat Yard
3. Bridge Inn
4. Lazeez
5. Bottom Wedding Shop
6. Robin Hood
7. Bonapartes (or whatever it's called now)

and all of these appear to cover a very limited area i.e the owners premises.

It's scary that if you walk from Howden road to The Duck pond you could appear on CCTV at least 6 times !!!!!!! So remember to smile when your walking round Silsden, you never know when your on the telly

(Will we get a Diary room next ?)
