I think the rule with Bradford council is wait until they've had a fatality they they'll come and grit! Obviously side roads don't need gritting as no one really uses them, plus it keeps accidents off the main roads.
Could be worse, we could be under Leeds council.
God help us all tomorrow, when we've had more snow on them

aireville crescent got gritted at 10am yesterday morning, several hours after anyone going to work actually needed it. This morning nothing had been round here, jaques grove or even howden road

When it snows if possible keep to the bus routes, they are always gritted first.

It always amazes me what a difference a few feet in height makes when snow is about. A bit of sleet in the valley and it's a blizzard and really impossible on the tops.

Stay warm and keep safe. happy :)

A gritter was doing our road, reversing up the hill nicely, until it came to a bit where there were cars parked on one side and and idiot in a red van parked on the other, half on the pavement so he know he was obstructing the road, and thought he'd obstruct the pavement a bit as well!! It couldn't get past so gave up at that point. Thanks red van man sad :( I hope someone without insurance skids on the ungritted part and crashes into you!

It says in todays T&A that they gritted the main roads 1st then will get to the side roads. They have also done the pavements in Bradford City centre.Having been to Bradford there isnt any snow there.Guess the decision to grit is made by someone in an office in Bradford by looking out of the window!!!

If your bin wasn't collected today TAKE IT IN

From the T & A

Snow and ice could hit refuse collection in Ilkley, Addingham, Burley-in-Wharfedale and Menston

10:13am Wednesday 3rd December 2008

By Paul Langan »

Residents of Ilkley, Addingham, Burley-in-Wharfedale and Menston have been warned that their wheelie bins may not get emptied this week because of the snow and ice.

Residents are asked to put out their bins as normal and take them back in again whether they are emptied or not.

If bins are not emptied, they will be emptied next week.

Additional rubbish that will not fit into the bin next week can be left by the bin in bags for collection.

We didn't get a mention, but what's new, I'm sure it applies to us as well.

isn,t amazing a few inches of snow and everyone is stuck in why do we pay council tax when they can,t get off there backsides and get the gritters out woodside road skipton road gloucester avenue and kent avenue are virtually inpassable some of these roads are bus routes and gloucester avenue needs clearing for the elderly people in the flats it will take an elderly person to fall and break there hip for the council to do something it is disgusting
that brad met have not got the brains to do something they have known for a few days this was coming

Isn't Keighley gritting run by an outside source? Well that was the excuse earlier this year when bypass was closed due to a big accident and it hadn't been gritted....

Gritting is done by council wagons.

A big technical problem is that our 'wet' snows tends to wash the salt and sand away, and then when it freezes again it needs re-gritting. A bit like those stables in the Greek myth.

Do we know where Mr Ibbotson lives so I can see if the roads around his house have been cleared.
Remember the days of Silsden UDC.The gritting wagons had men on the back shoveling salt off the back of a wagon but at least the roads were clear. Not to mention the footpath snow ploughs that disappeared once Bradford Met took over.
Mechanical gritters work but only if someone in charge sends the drivers to where needed. However today in a step back in time I saw blokes on the back of a pick up half heartedly checking grit around.

all the bin collections were suspended today due to the weather conditions...the alot of the staff were sent out in transit vehicles filled with grit and shovels...that said they probably did a better job than the gritting wagons...must of the refuse staff were also amazed how bad the roads were and how few the gritting wagons had been...

Thats good.I think they did Gloucester Ave community Centre. But people need to be able to get to these places.
Its possible tomorrow morning peoples cars wont be frozen and it might be above freezing point but because the roads are so cold they could be frozen solid again.Or worse...black Ice.

Fortunately I live on a Hoppa bus route and it always used to be gritted, but Bradford do not seem to be as efficient as they once were!

The subject was brought up in the TC meeting tonight and seems to be a district wide problem!

Absolutely disgusted ! What do we pay our council tax for please!!

Silsden Moor was actually on the BBC for being one of the worst hit areas in the country! Ive had to walk 18miles a day for 3 days to do unavoidable business!!

Tomorrow I am digging my way out of the farm.

I am a very angry bunny!

angry My son works for British Gas and his area covers quite a large part of the Dales and also Ilkley, Menston, Addingham, Silsden & Steeton. He hasn't seen one single gritter all week. On Thursday, he serviced a boiler at a house in Ilkley and it turned out that the bloke who lived there worked for the council. When my son mentioned to him that he hadn't seen any gritters, the bloke told him it was because they didn't have any grit. Apparently it wasn't due to be delivered until Friday the 4th Dec. Am I missing something here? We all know 12 months in advance that winter is coming so why leave it so late to order the stuff. It isn't as though it's going to pass its sell by date.
