Just because it's in the Highway Code doesn't mean it's law - more recommendations.

I believe the relevant bit in the HIghway Code is:

229
Before you set off

•you MUST be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from all your windows
•you MUST ensure that lights are clean and number plates are clearly visible and legible
•make sure the mirrors are clear and the windows are demisted thoroughly
•remove all snow that might fall off into the path of other road users
•check your planned route is clear of delays and that no further snowfalls or severe weather are predicted

SO "might" fall off - so I guess if it's frozen solid on the car, then you are okay.

If there is an excessive amount of snow on a vehicle's roof it could cause visibility problems if it shifts down over the windscreen of the vehicle or cause problems to other road users if it lands on their vehicle. Such a vehicle could be classed as being in a dangerous condition, according to Humberside Police.

However, the number of idiots I've passed this week, or had to follow, driving in their own mini-blizzard from snow blowing up off their own bonnet . . . never mind the idiots wh simply couldn't see sideways, or much to the front from the non-cleared windows - two of whom this week nearly hit me by pulling out - luckily, with my cleared windows, I saw them wink :)

Common sense surely tells you to clear all windows, all areas where snow will shift and obscure your own vision, never mind the poor sod behind. After-all, if something fell off the vehicle in-front and damaged your car, you'd be a bit annoyed - so whats the difference?

I have not need to renew my photo on my driving licence, because I have never had one, not having had to make any changes to my licence since the photo part was brought in!
Snow on the roof must have been very deep for an officer to be bothered to do anything about it, just look at all the cars driving around with lights out.

I've seen several cars this week alone, driving between 20.00 and 21.00, with no lights on at all. The stupidity of some people just never fail to amaze me! They where not boy racers, one was a reasonably new Saab 95 convertible.
