Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in Silsden, though not PJ motors as have had a recent bad experience with them. |

I have used Hainsworth Garage (Ralph Kidney) for over 6 years now, and they are great to deal with, and they know what they are doing. They have done simple and complicated jobs....would recommend them every time. |

Me too. I have heard all sorts of "sour grapes" about Ralph and Wainwrights, but I have used both on a few occasions and have only got praise for them. Ralph did me an oil top up a couple of weeks ago, and wouldn,t accept any payment for it until next time it goes in for a service. You cant say fairer than that. |

Not Silsden, but maybe useful if it's on your way anywhere - Hall Street Garage, on, funnily enough, Hall Street in Crosshills. In the 7 years I lived in this area, can't say I have had any problem with them in any way at all. Most helpful, good price, friendly people, job done when said it would be.
And I'm a bit particular when it comes to cars and having to pay someone to do something I could do myself if I had the time.

Bankside Motors, down Sykes Lane oposite Bridge chippy. Gone there for 15+ years and have complete trust in the place. Even spotted things on my new (new to me, but second hand) car that the dealership didn't spot! Mind you, its not saying much that the dealers didn't spot it. Anyway, great garage - knowns what he's talking about. |

Had to sign up to agree with roosterman about Wilco's (motosave) next to Netto's
A couple of years ago they did my MOT, they told me I needed 3 new brake pipes due to corrosion, cost £120 which i paid.
Next year they did my MOT and again told me I had 3 corroded brake pipes which needed to be replaced £120 ! I asked the mechanic in his opinion how long had they needed replacing and said at least 18 months !
So they either didn't replace them when I paid for it OR they tried to get me to pay for it again the second time
Wouldn't be surprised if they tell everyone their brake pipes need replacing |

Along those lines, some years ago, a work collegue had some work done on his Sierra at a local depot of a well known, national chain.
He was told his shocks had had it, and ought to be replaced - the price quoted seemed quite reasonable, so he had it done.
Less than a year later, he had something else done and was told, by the by, his shocks were knackered, leaking and ought to be replaced. Fine he said, go ahead.
Get to bill paying time . . . quite a big bill . . . which was when he presented the receipt and warranty from the original replacement shocks, stating free replacement if defective . . . Lots of teeth gnashing from man behind desk - one arguement later, the shocks were removed from the bill as a warranty replacement . . .
He reckoned there was actually nothing wrong with the shocks, and the free placement wasn't something they had in mind when they suggested they were defective
He didn't go back again.
