This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

I understand that a couple more shops were broken into over the weekend - what are the police doing about this latest spat, are they related to the break-ins in the run up to Christmas? Does anyone have any information?

The butchers as mentioned and the second hand/resell shop I believe.....

Ever since an Inspector came on silsden.net to say that crime rate was low we have had a really spate of it!

Does anyone know if someone has been caught, - surely the camera must have caught something?

According to the butchers Facebook page someone came forward with a name for the person who broke her window and it was an argument gone wrong. They are paying for the damage if she doesn't press charges.

As a resident of Silsden, I have subscribed to Email alerts from West Yorkshire Police Authority.

Seeing Gazzer's posting came as a bit of a surprise, as this wasn't broadcast. I might be being naive, but is this a case of "It's only Silsden, a rural backwater!"

It might not rank as a major crime, but at a community level, the police "authority" should be more proactive in their approach?

I heard that the church hall was broken into last week. All that was taken, was a bottle of Sherry?

Does that not say something about our society? The individual(s) caused more in damages, than the cost of replacing the stolen items.

A police presence is required full time in q town of this size, not once a month for a civic meeting. Civic meetings do not provide a deterrent to opportunistic thieves, vandals or other criminals.

Why not mirror dales community policing and have an officer based in the town hall? No need for a station or any of its related costs.

this post has been edited 2 time(s)

Unfortunately that police community team also cover Ilkley, Keighley, Addingham, Steeton and the rest of the valley. One would hope that Mark Burns-Williamson addresses this problem, but I wouldn't hold my breath!

The PCSO operation is good, but with limited powers, isn't anything like as effective as a full time, paid officer. I do NOT mean any offence to the serving PCSO's in this comment. They serve a useful and appreciated role in the community. As Aflac99 says, it is down to money at the end of the day.
