Topic : Olympic games what a waste of money |

well as we all knew it would its turning into a joke but the joke is on us because its our money getting wasted by the billion not the million  I have yet to meet anyone who is bothered about this giant white elephant, I open the Sun paper every day and on there Olympic count down page there are strange people who i have never heard of and do not want to hear of its now up to 12 billion and the cost is still rising we are going to end up the laughing stock of the world but we knew that anyway. |

If your kids are as twisted and bitter as you, then nothing!!! cos your kids will be on their fat back sides getting fatter by the day, says oh im big boned i can’t help being fat. Instead of looking at the games and be inspired by one of the many different events, which can be taken up by anyone regardless of location or cost!! But moans like you say, you can’t do that it costs billions!!!! and a waste of money, but hat i guess like the billions the NHS pays for fat gits eating crap every day and think that exercise is walking to the pub. |

right mister mcfcd my kids are not fat they are all very fit and all do sports but not the sports in this complete waste of time and money, as for you what do you do apart from personnel attacks on peoples kids I have strange view agreed but I never attack other people not like you so just back off in future just put your view point and we will agree to disagree now be a good boy and make your bed for your mummy  |

The Olympic Games has been a real disaster for the moaning minis and Jerimiahs of this world. For a start it would never be ready on time - and it is. In fact it all seams to be going to plan. OK, it is costing the country a few bob, but it will show that when the country has to deliver, it delivers. |

120 businesses in Yorkshire have got business in connection with the Olympics and Paralympics, some of the overseas teams will be based in Yorkshire. Every time Britain gets world attention some people knock it into the ground...and remember a lot of the athletes come from Yorkshire. Time to wake up and smell the roses...it's not all bad  |

I work in Leeds and London and I have watched the Olympic development turn a pretty manky corner of London into something pretty special. It has brought jobs fo the community there, and importantly brought jobs and money to suppliers and contractors aroudn the UK. When Sydney hosted the Olympics they estimated that it added 1% to 2% to the GDP that year, and it sustained a 1% increase in GDP for three /four years after. The results benefit the UK as a whole, aside from the fillip we will get if we start bringing home the medals. The alternative of course, is to sits moaning while the French host it and reap the benefits. |

Localman, Why does it have to benefit you or silsden ALL the time? I'm not from Silsden although i lived there for a couple of years. A small amount of people do a lot of good for silsden and thats great but the "outsiders" idea of silsden is just further confirmed when folk read what you have to say... |

not many will not be many benifit from these games, you just watch the costs go through the roof if any one thinks this has been a good idea they must be very blinkered just check the facts check what happened in other cities it took montreal over 30 years to pay there debts off |

You have too much time on your hands!! Try googling something else like.... Who had even heard of Montreal BEFORE the games? How many people have visited Montreal BECAUSE of them hosting the games? How much money have visitors spent? I'm not even that bothered really. I'm starting to sound like you old pal |

As the games have yet to happen the cost/income ie profit/loss can only be speculation. Naturally the moaning minis are going all out to speculate on a big loss, but that is not a certainty. So far the moaners have got everything else wrong so w will have to wait and see to see what the final financial result is. Governments have to back the games as 'free enterprise' isn't really up to the job. Also governments invest for all of us so the benefits come to all of us. We will also have wait and see what those benefits are. Probably a few no one even thought of. |
