This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Just hear some parts of Skippy are being closed off and wondered how we're doing in Silsden?

Someone said the canal if fit to burst it's banks soon but I haven't looked myself. What about the beck by the duckpond and further down opposite the driving range?

The fields along the bypass to Kly didn't seem flooded this am about 7:30 as I went past. Have the diggers been doing something to prevent them flooding?

I wish the electric poeple would hurry up and fill in this hole outside my house, it will be a swimming pool soon!! (and it has cables in it!!)

Jonno. (at work, bored, looking out at lots of rain falling down).

Hmmm, a colleague from work went home about 2 hours ago, she lives in Skipton. With any look she'll get swept away and we'll see her on top of her car on Look North (kidding!!).

Just got to work in bingley
What fields at the side of the bypass its lake silsden now

The beck by the post office has been a torrent for over a week no ducks sat on the beck or they would be miles away before they knew it

I doubt the canal will flood as there are run offs at most sets of locks
i think this had something to do with Leeds flooding last week as far as i know there is a run off into the river Aire at leeds which was already fit to burst

As far as I know there is an overflow from the canal into the old mill dam this is now piped in to the jumping jack beck. I there was some kind of over flow into greens timber yard that was why it was always muddy

The pound between Gargrave and Bingley Five Rise is some 19 miles long. There are numerous 'overflows'/byewashes situated along this pond. As indicated by other correspondents one of the main ones is at the Five Rise but there are others such as the one at East Morton which flows into the Crosshills Beck (not sure of that is the correct name) and one just before Bradley which flows into the local Beck. That said, as seen recently, when the water coming into the canal from the numerous side streams is greater than that leaving by the byewashes the level of the canal waters rise! Unlucky for those living on the leeside of the canal including any future house owners in Sykes Lane!

ahh ok np
the only time ive ever heard of it bursting its banks was when they were doing work on a section near crossflatts in the late 80's and it was human error
(if it has burst in other places before or after this i havent heard of it)
