IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : State of the train station |
|
| redref |
I don't know about everyone else, but after years of using the train station and being disgusted with the state of the ground behind the platforms, I decided to do my own bit for the environment and spend saturday afternoon cleaning it up by myself. After two hours work I managed to fill 4 bags of rubbish and collect a bin full of bottles/cans etc. I'm obviously a bit nuts to do this myself, and its a joke that it comes down to someone who spends all week working to decide this has to be done when we have plenty of people claiming benefits and doing sod all each day of the week! I would like to get some support maybe sometime and do it a bit more often but I'd probably get told that I should be asking the council to do it( and what do we pay council tax for anyhow?). I guess if I told the paper about i'd get prosecuted for trespassing anyway. What does anyone else think? |

Well done Redref! You've just done 2 hours of "Community Service" so remember to tell the magistrates next time you get done for something - you might get it taken off your sentence! It does raise the question though... by making "Community Service" a punishment does it alter the attitude of some people towards helping in their community? What do you think? |

Well, what made it worse was that it was terrible weather , and from what I've been told, if you do community service they generally wont make you work when the weather isn't warm and dry |

I too am concerned about Steeton station, in particular the lack of working monitors and that only on set of speakers seems to be working. The screens have been out many months. The state of the shelter on the up line is improving very slowly and the No smoking signs are so small they seem to be taken as advisory not obligatory |

No harm in complaining to the powers that be: www.wymetro.com/ContactMetro/ |

Complaint made. I do think it's funny that the block paving of the old shelter has been replaced with concave tarmac. I nearly went for a swim in the shelter the other day when it rained. |

Am I mistaken, or is there a brand new platform (to Leeds/Bradford)now? Seems a bit narrower than the last one. Noticed the cleanup, good job done. Maybe redref should get a free season ticket....... |

The platform has been replaced in sections over the last few weeks - and I agree about the shelter although at least we can get in it now, they blocked it off totally for a few days |
