I am sure any Silsdeners living in exile will be saddened to hear that Ernest Haggart has died aged 89 after a short illness. Known to all at Silsden Secondary Modern as Charlie. I remember his open and honest approach to teaching and his refusal to label us 11+ failures as failures, listening intently to our feeble excuses and then retorting "you've just made that up" No malice just get on with it. At the end of each day roaring out of the playground on his motor bike. |

I went to visit charlie in manerlands 3 weeks ago and he told me how he still see`s many of his past pupils from Silsden top school around Keighley on his trip`s into town and what happy memories of the Silsden people he had. |

I think he must have been, he would have been about 40 when he taught me. |
