IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : replacement trees and hedges |
|
| alliecoward |
this post has been edited 2 time(s) when proctors built the houses on the canalside, destroyng all the hedges and the trees in the process, the plans said they would be replaced by silver birch trees in the gardens. walking on there today I notice that this has not happened, and wonder if it ever will, or just be another of those empty promises made. The original plans also stated that the towpath would be behind the tree on the end plot, and in fact it is in front of the tree, in effect narrowing the towpath considerably. I have also been led to believe that the occupiers have requested that tree to be cut down, destroying yet more of our natural habitat.can anything be done?? |

Was this your first walk on this section of the cut bank?.I suggest it is.I have had a look on Google Earth which has not been updated since the house building. The tow path never went behind the tree always to the canal side.Had it have grown between the path and the canal British Waterways would have cut it down.I suggest you can walk from Leeds to Liverpool without a tree standing between you and the water.I put it to you that none of the tow path has been "lost" Of the 73 yards which the site runs only 29 yards were hedgerow. You dont see enough Betula pendula so perhaps that scaby tree should be replaced by such tree |

this post has been edited 3 time(s) the point is that tree should not be another one lost to builders along with the many already taken down, and what makes you think it is scabby? many of the birds and wildlife quite like it.AND my question was also are the builders going to replace the trees like they said in the plans?which incidentally show the tree in front of the wall not behind it( read first posting I said the plans had put the tree there)suggestion wrong about first walk on there, do it every day, sorry!and as pictures i took before the building took place can show you the whole of that canalside was trees and hedgerow, just like furthur on keighley side. |

alliecoward suggest you find out who the planning case officer is and report your concerns to them ,no point in letting developers get away with more than they already do` if it`s going to cost them they will try and get away with not doing it |

Some people are against new housing and cant see the bigger picture.Every town, city and village has new houses built.Always have, always will. Most of the people in Silsden live in houses built in my time. So what do you want?.Stone built houses well designed to fit in with Silsden, reclaiming a run down former gas works site or houses built on green belt. You decide.Thats what the debate is. |

i speak on behalf of the occupiers of the end plot with the tree. 1. yes the tree was shown as being on the canal bank side of the development. 2. yes, initially there was a request to remove the tree and replace it with a more appropriate specimine (less 'scrappy') but the contract was to include a claus taht prevented removal of the tree. 3 the contracts for sale of propreties on the development has a claus that stetes that purchasers must allow access to the property to allow planting of the trees shown on the plans at the first available planting time after completion. It also states that any trees that do not survive the first 5 years must be replaced. 4 the planting shedule is available by e mailing GRPBUILD@aol.com |

thankyou jambosmum, you've answered the question, that is the trees are going to be replaced, unlike gazzer who has now turned the debate into a housing one, which was never mentioned!!or perhaps you just did'nt have the answer. |

As it appears this issue will be resolved over time by the builders I am closing this thread. I have made a page to show how the towpath looked before/after the house building - if you have a picture you would like to add to this page please send it to me (email address at the bottom of the page). www.silsden.net/useful/2007/info/proctor_houses.htm |
