I visited the Co-op today and I just want to say what a surprise!
- An excellent refurbishment!
(so just get a few more people on the checkouts a bit quicker when it's needed please!)

Agreed. Having such excellent facilities that one can walk is a real benefit to Silsden.

Just hope the computer sorts the stocking levels out. Evidently data from the old system was not carried forward onto the new one so they have had to start from scratch. Takes about five weeks to find out what sells and what does not. Obvioulsy paracetamol and pastry mix sell well, they have run out. Mind you, there are some strange items on the shelves that will probably not be seen again!!

I agree, it looks good. However, I do hope that more tills are manned when it gets busy. On the occasions that I have shopped there post refit the queue lengths have been unacceptable.

i agree more tills should be manned .am fed up of waiting ,they have lots more tills but only have 1 working at a time ,get more workers on the tills, not filling shelfs.managers are to blame, filling shelfs should be done when the place is shut,

Its not a matter of when they fill the shelves
The staff are contracted to work so many hours and the Co-op only allow so many staff to be employed along with restrictions on overtime

Its the co-op themselves thats the problem not the manager or staff

Spreading too little too far

Queuing is a real problem. There is even a mathematical theory on it. It is the same one that shows why buses bunch up, even though they all left together. Probably shows why people in a supermarket all decide to go to the checkout at the same time.

In the end it has to be a balance between the likelihood of having a queue, and lost business from have to many long queues to often.

If anyone has a solution, other than an infinite number of checkouts, then no doubt Mr Morrison et al would like to hear from you.

Seems I should have been a supermarket entrepreneur. Dead easy, supervisor spots (or is informed) that queues are getting long....supervisor redeploys available staff.

West Yorkshire Co-op was supposed to have merged with that lot from over the border but it looks like it was a takeover. The "Lancastrinisation" of our Co-ops must stop.
Starting with "bacon barm".Its not a barm or a bap its a T-Cake.

HQ is now in Rochdale, where the World Wide Co-Operative movement started. So I suppose you can say the whole Co-Operative idea was Lancastrian!!

Where I come from bread buns were known as Huffkins, honest.

And I can't even ask for a scone 'cause my offcumden accent makes the chippy laugh!

The chippy and the bakers were the only places were I felt I'd moved a long way from home.

I never thought I'd need to be "bi-lingual" in bread types, but there really are so many names and variations of bread roll/ cobbler/ bap/ barm/ teacake etc!

From the "did you know" pages:

Breeadflake is the name given to the hanging clothes drier in Silsden after its use to dry haverbreead (an oatcake)

Haverbreead (haverbread) when baked, is a soft sheet of oatmeal held together by thickened water. People who bought it hung it over the rails of the clothes drier, a rack which hung from the living room ceiling. After hanging the haverbreead for a couple of days it became hard and crisp and was then spread with butter - a treat.

We offcumdens don't stand a chance happy :)

Anyone notice how the price of goods has shot up since the refurb?

On the deli counter a sandwich now costs £1.99 up from £1.49 and a hot pie seems to have gone from 79p to £1.09
