Topic : Wanted - LAND TO SHOOT ON |

I'm a fully licensed, responsible shotgun owner who requires land to shoot on. I have 10+ years of experience shooting and always do so in a safe manner. If you have, or know of, any suitable land I would be pleased to hear from you. I can also help out with any vermin problems such as rabbits, rats or foxes. |

Why are there such a lot of unthinking people in Silsden who cannot tolerate different views without hurling abuse or making mindless remarks in the belief that somehow they are being funny? In support of Ginjo,perhaps these folk should get a life instead of being so thoughtlessly prepared to take it. And no, not a townie...a Silsdener born and bred, although occasionally ashamed to be so these days. |

I would like to ask DoubleD and co. if they get some perverse pleasure out of shooting living creatures or whether they feel they are doing a public service by killing vermin? Define "vermin". |

Hi all, Sorry I didn't mean to start a debate on the ethics of shooting, just wanted to know if there was any land available but I suppose I should have expected it posting on such a widely accessed site. In response to a couple of points though I can assure you that I am responsible even though I do shoot animals - I have witnessed first hand what happens when local populations are obliterated by irresponsible overshooting. Also I have done a lot of clay pidgeon shooting in the past but that is only one type of shooting discipline and an expensive one at that! Finally I do not personally get any perverse pleasure out of killing things, for me the pleasure is in being in the outdoors and studying the area enough to take note what quarry is available and how to track and find it - being careful to make sure that you don't take too many. We are geared up to be meateaters after all but I respect other peoples feelings and if someone doesn't want to eat meat either for ethical, medical or religious reasons then that's fine by me. If you do choose to eat meat though I feel that you should be prepared to kill that meat yourself once in a while - it's a bit hypocritical saying that you shouldn't shoot rabbits etc and then tucking into a nice big steak. I always make use of any edible wildlife that I manage to shoot. Funnily enough I've never had any negative remarks when it comes to shooting rats......perhaps they are not cute and fluffy enough for any sympathy? Anyway if there is any land please let me know. DoubleD...do you shoot grey squirrels? Someone told me they are just rats with furry tails, and an old friend used to shoot and eat them...not sure myself! He used to keep 6 or so in his freezer. |

As Pumba is at work took the liberty of breaking out that fine bible of tasteful cooking. And sorry to disapoint but there's only recipes for broiled or fried squirrel. Yummy |

SQUIRREL PIE Source: Terri Bloss Prep Time: 2 hours Ingredients Utensils 3-4 squirrels - cooked and de-boned Large pot 1 large can mixed veggies, long cut (or frozen 10oz. pkg) Sauté pan 1/2 stick margarine Regular size pot 1 large onion Pie Shell 1 7oz. can mushroom pieces 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1 Tablespoon Italian salad dressing 1 glove garlic (crushed) 1 ea. beef and chicken bouillon cube 1 Tablespoon flour Salt and Pepper Directions Parboil squirrels until tender and pick meat off the bones (save 3 cups of the liquid) Sauté onions, mushrooms and garlic in Worcestershire sauce, Italian dressing and margarine until tender Boil saved liquid add salt & pepper then flour until thick (this is your gravy) Put first pie crust in bottom of 9 inch pie pan Mix squirrels and veggies together, add half the gravy and put into the pie shell Put second pie crust on top, cut slits in the top and Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees Serve with remainder of gravy over top |

I'm amazed....thank you all for the ideas, looks like we could be on a winner at £3.50 apiece! Now all I have to do is catch them....or get DoubleD to shoot them. I've been thinking about a part time job, this could be it! |

Going of DD's first post he is using a shotgun, even with no.9 shot it will make a mess , better off with an air rifle or a .22 rimfire. Pelts can be made into pencil cases and sold at the same market as the pies. |
