Does this mean that the angler at the end of the pier or bobbing around in a little dingy is subject to this regulation? Or, is a commercial fishing ban that has been deliberately misinterpreted for obvious political reasons? If it is the former how come our government allows the regulation to apply to individual anglers, I am sure an exception is possible. If it is the latter then thinking that leaving the EU will end them is wrong. We will still need to trade with the EU and this will require compliance with their rules, whether we like it or not. Outside of course we will have no say in the matter at all. |

According to britishseafishing.co.uk/bass/ In December 2015 the UK government announced that for the first six months (January to June) of 2016 bass would be a catch and release species only for recreational anglers. The government press release states: “Recreational anglers will also continue to be able to target the fish [bass] in the first six months of the year on the basis they release them back, alive, into the water.” There will also be limits placed on commercial fishing, although some inshore fishermen will be allowed to continue to catch bass. For the second half of 2016 anglers will be limited to retaining one bass per day. This limit applied to all forms of recreational fishing including fishing with a rod and line from the shore or boat and also other forms of recreational fishing (i.e fishing with a net or speargun). A further conservation measure was announced in August 2015 when the minimum size for retaining bass was increased from 36cm to 42cm. This new size limit applies to both commercially and recreationally caught bass. However, both this bag limit and new size limit appears to have been superseded with the new catch and release only rule from January 2016. |

I knew that inland recreational fishing was subject to such rules. Seems like the sea fisher is having to follow similar rules. Thanks for the proper explanation. |
