IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : Anyone know the "Water Hardness" for Silsden? |
|
| offcumden |
Does anyone happen to know what the "water hardness" is for Silsden? One would think that the Yorkshire Water website would be able to supply the information but as far as I can see that isn't the case... Just bought a new dishwasher and I could use the information to set it up... |

I asked YW who said we are "moderately soft". Maybe once upon a time but in the 30+ years I have been plumbing I have seen an increase in limescale on appliances. I did a test for a customer a couple of months ago and the result didnt show it as particular hard. Now whether YW use a water grid and pump it around Yorkshire I dont know, but I suspect they do. Nowadays when fitting new combi boilers I always recomend a limescale reducer as part of the installation. We bought a new dishwasher this week and if it helps I left the hardness setting at default which is mid range. |

www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/Store/Content/aquagleam/WaterHardnessUk.aspx The link above shows a water hardness map of the uk. We are moderately soft in Silsden as our water is mainly supplied from rainfall. Yes there is a grid that is used to pump water so either the boreholes in the east or the reservoirs in the west can supply Yorkshire. The limescale you see gazzer might be from the lime added at the works to alter the pH of the water. |

It is 'soft'. Only 'scaling' is a slight brown tinge and that takes years. I believe our water is mainly surface run off, ie rain. Borehole water into lime stone produces hard water so it can be a bit confusing around here. Coming from an area where it was very hard and everything furred up I certainly appreciate Silsden water. It also tastes OK so bottled water not really needed either. |
