Just wondering if anyone else has been held to ransom by their utility company. My tariff is due to come to an end so was looking to sign up to a new one with Eon, whom I've been with for many years. On checking the terms and conditions you have to agree to have a smart meter fitted ( which isn't compulsory yet). I rang them only to be told all their tariffs are on condition you have one, except for the variable tariff. Apparently all the big companies are now doing this. Personally I think it's wrong especially as there's been so much trouble with a lot of the fittings. Also the date for everyone to have them fitted by has been postponed a couple of years. |

i moved to EON in April this year & unless they have updated their T&Cs since then, the only obligation was to TALK to them about smart meters, but there was no obligation to have them fitted. i actually had both of my old dial meters replaced a couple of months ago as they had reached their age limit, and EON arranged to have them replaced with new non-smart meters as the SMETS2 smart meters will not be available to them until next year. there was no pressure to take smart meters from them |

They have obviously changed their terms & conditions recently and you can only have the tariff if you agree to them. I also have seen it on Martin Lewis website that's why I'm reluctant to have a smart meter. All the big companies are now adopting this attitude and as I was told the only option is to change suppliers. So much for loyalty. |

we have been with EON for 15 years, and were denied access earlier this year to the best tariff, unless we fitted a smart meter... no option...! We tried the "loyalty" approach, but were told that they had to insist on the smart meters or they would be fined. Tried again with a manager at EON, and he would not budge. So we moved to a supplier who did not insist on it, as they said until the Stage 2 meters had been validated they would not insist on them. We may eventually have to fit one, but we did not like the heavy attitude of EON, so we moved. And it was a bit cheaper as well, with excellent service. One day this smart meter scandal will be investigated, it's a huge waste of money, with outdated kit. And Ed Milliband's name will be on the initial idea to implement the scheme, but it was carried through by a subsequent government. Hey ho... check it out... |

Claiming to be monitoring your energy on one gets a quick end to those energy saving cold calls. We are happy with our nPower unit at the moment. Latest multiple calls have been for washing machine non existing breakdown contracts. Even had a Microsoft Windows one the other day. Indian accent and agree I wasted his time he started swearing. I think my laughter didn't help. Cheeky lighter tried ringing back a couple of times. Caller ID is great as just cut off straight away without answering. |

Exactly the same experience as me Dexter. There is no choice but to change suppiers. May I ask who you moved to as I'm finding it difficult to trawl through the many companies. |

Traveller ...We decided to support a local company... Yorkshire Energy, based in Leeds You have to send a meter reading each month online, but for us that is not a problem |

Whoever you choose avoid together energy, took me 6 months to get my credit balance back. Changed to White Rose who I think are run by the council not for profit, and they were very efficient but after a year Orbit energy quoted less so have swapped to them, no problems so far. |

We switched to Octupus Energy as they are highly rated on Money Saving Expert and seem to be very good so far. They won't ask you to switch to a Smart meter as they are not set up to use them and you have to take your own reading and give it to them via their website each month. |
