Out again trying to cause accidents on Howden Road. This time they are on the left(downhill) hid behind a tree with their sign hid behind a car!!!!.I watched them for just a few minutes. The natural reaction for drivers when seeing them, even if not speeding is to brake hard causing cars behind to do the same. Peter if you can post pictures I have a couple then people can judge if its a safe place to have speedwatch. |

gazzer, Why is the natural reaction to brake when you see a member of the police force? surely if you are driving properly i,e, at or below the legal speed limit and not dangerously or carelessly then you just continue as you are, that is how I usually react. |

I didnt say I did.I said others do.I would say its a natural reaction to brake and check your speed at the same time.Thats why they dont put gatso's on the M1, because people would brake suddenly. I drive a van and if im on Bingley bypass with a police car in front doing 48mph and me doing the same. What do you think happens when a car overtakes me even if he is only doing the speed limit(50).He will brake. Its just what people do. If you dont then well done but 90% of people will react and brake. Its been proved by people putting "scarecrows" in yellow jackets at the roadside. |

agreed i dont speed but its a natural reaction just incase you have crept marginally above the speed limit most cars dont have cruise control so unless your constantly looking at the speedo then you cant be sure if your doing 26 29 33 or 36 mph etc |

i could be wrong but they look like pcso's so surely that means the real pc's are out catching burgulars and not doing speed checks...and we all complain about speed checks but if any of your family or friends were hit by a speeding vehicle and hurt or killed then you would all jump on the band wagon saying the police dont do enough to stop speeding motorists...cant have it both ways... |

They might be a pain in the rear, but if people aren't speeding why worry? Plus if you do naturally break when you see police you shouldn't need to worry abput the car behind because surely in a built up area they aren't going to be driving too close behind you to hit you are they, I mean a child could run out at anytime on Howden Road so as everyone is prepared for this happening they will be travelling at a sfae distance? Oh sorry forgot it's Silsden you don't need to drive like that do you? I'd be more than happy for a couple of them to sit behind a tree on Skipton Road and get those idiots speeding there too! |

Just to point out again its not a thread about the rights and wrongs about speed scameras its about whether the location has more chance of causing an accident than stopping one |

Granted they could have put that sign somewhere more visible- but where? Seeing as those pictures don't show the full extent of the ammount of parked cars in their way, I think that spot was great. Also seeing as the pictures don't show where the other sign was put. It was on the other side of the road for opposing traffic to see. It was well away from the officers and I good view. You could clearly see the officers and the sign as you come from Cobbydale stores. Why do some members of this town have such an Anti-Police attitude? If some poeple stopped to speak to some of them you may find they are more than helpful and friendly. I'm seeing more of them these days doing 'speedwatch' on our streets in places poeple complain about speeding. Keep up the good work officers! |

I did in fact as a first course of action try to speak to the PCSO.He was so abrupt it can be called rude. I pointed out my concerns and his reply was, in not a polite way, "were here to stop people speeding not to wipe drivers backsides" at which point he turned his back on me. And some people wonder why people become anti police.I'm neither anti police or pro speeding.I would be the first to support speed cams on Bingley bypass. There is a place for speed cams but its not there. There is no place for rudeness by serving PCSO's.Just a note it wasnt Mr Walton |

If you go to any public meeting where the Police are in attendance one of the biggest complaints by those there is speeding cars. Their not bothered about crime generally because they believe that will happen to someone else. So the Communty Police do what they can by educating drivers and all people do is complain again. Guess they can't win. |

People seem to be missing the point so can i just repeat
IT IS NOT A THREAD ABOUT SLOWING DRIVERS DOWN ITS ABOUT THE LOCATION USED BY SPEEDWATCH. |

had this coming back from boundry mills sunday i was trying to get back in time for the start of the british gp
(i had 30 minutes) no problem considering id got to boundry mills in just over 15 minutes never speeding but doing the limit everywere in light traffic (well had to get there for free breakfast on a sunday before 11am)
got stuck behind a muppet in a green T reg honda accord doing 20 in 30 zones 40 in 60 zones etc i had to follow him all the way from the border on the top all the way down past cowling
ive no problem with people doing whatever speed they like as long as its safe and legal but if your going stupidly slow let people past |

Whoever it is, there is no excuse for being rude! My late father often quoted the saying, “Civility cost nothing; but it commands respect.” I always try to observe this in all my dealings. |

It is not possible to get to boundary mills in 15 mins no matter how fast you are going, I think someone is having a laugh!! There is always hold ups through crosshills and at colne especially with the 20mph limits.Whenever we have used multimap or aa for route planning in theory you can be miles away from silsden in 30 mins, in reality sometimes we have gone no futher than keighley or crosshills!! very annoying.I think the pcso's should do a speed watch on Ingsway. |

If the legal minimum speed on a UK Motorway is 40 MPH what gives anyone the right to complain about someone doing 40 MPH on any road where it's below the speed limit?
More power to the Police I say. It's just a pity that they need to display their presence to the pratts charging down Howden Rd. at all. They'd get far more of the anti-social motoring element if they were allowed to wear cammo gear and hide in the bushes.... |

BUT THEY ARE HIDING... behind trees, and hiding the warning signs for their activity, see the picture at the begining of this thread. That makes it a money grabbing activity and not a deterent.
If they really wanted to educate the motorist on Howden Road then they should be stopping those motorist speeding and talking to them. Speeding tickets and points are not really necessary but are a good way of alienation the locals. This is a locals road we should be looking where we are going not at the speedo all the time worrying if a local PCSO is lurking behind a tree. |

Having had to cough up £60 because I was doing 36 mph just before the road to Halifax crosses the top of Thornton roads I have no sympathy for anyone caught speeding down Howden road, it is much more a residential area than where I was caught and not a main road.
As for the positioning. Why did they not book all the cars obstructing them in the execution of their duty. They would have been within their rights becasue any vehicle parked on the highway is obstructing that highway. All the parking rules are a concession, not a right.
By the way, if the PCSO was rude, report him. He would at least get a bollicking if only for the fact someone took up time at base by complaining. It is not the nature of the complaint that always p****s off the powers that be but the time they have to take dealing with it. |

the best thing is, when i'm on my motorbike and you come up to a snail of traffic doing 20mph and you wonder what's going on?? i pass the snail and get to the front and guess what? it's a brain doner peering over the dash, probaly thinking it's quiet on the roads today.WELL IT WOULD BE WUNNIT? everyone else is stuck behind them!!!! i like to pass them, glare through the window and drive off into the clear distance shaking my head in obvious disgust.shoot them, that's what i say. |

As a lot of motorbikes now have bigger engines that a lot of cars they are basically two wheeled cars. Having in my time toured the continent on 150cc, 250cc and 660cc capacity two wheeled machines and a 1000cc 4 wheeled machine (two up with camping gear in all cases) I can say from experience that size ain't everything. |

I admit to doing 32 mph down Ings way - onmy push bike. It was a bit scary, not sure how they keep up 30+ mph on the Tour de France. |
