This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

I an sure many people will be saddend to hear of the death of Kathleen Hardcastle, Kate as she fashioned herself latterly, died in the Royal Lancaster Infirmary on 30th October after a short illness. I had the privilege of being her friend for as long as I can remember, she was a brilliant organiser, and a tireless worker once she got the bit between her teeth. Being in her company was not without its risks, after a short converation one was usually persuaded to part with some of your time, I worked with her many years delivering telephone books, out in all weathers, no one missed their deadline, recently Kathleen devoted her time to raising awareness and funding for pancreatic cancer I myself wear a lapel badge that I was commanded to purchase when I met her in Lancaster. Her brother Terry died from the disease as did her mother Maggie many years ago. Kathleen was also a regular contributor to this forum, drawing on her wealth of local knowledge when information was sought. I hope the Pearly Gates are well polished, or St Peter may be in the Doghouse. I for one feel the loss of someone who was an honour to know.

Silsden will be poorer for Kate's passing. She had an encyclopedic knowledge of past residents and places in Silsden, her contributions to the forum will be missed. My best wishes to her family.

Sad news. A woman who Got Things Done.
I wasn't aware Terry had died. Never really knew him, as he was a good bit older than me but, if I recall correctly, he had a noteworthy beard

Sad news, I got to know Kathleen when she was organising the rail excursion from the newly opened Steeton & Silsden station to Morcambe we spent the evening before the big day filling balloons with helium in the base of the old signal box at the side of the station, what a great day out we all had!

So sad to hear this news! I got to know Kate after my dad died of pancreatic cancer a few years ago! Spent a very windy afternoon up on Silsden Moor letting off 100 helium balloons in remembrance of lost loved ones. She will be sadly missed!
