During the early hours of Tuesday morning on Howden Road, my neighbour over the road got up for some reason and looked out of his bedroom window.
He noticed a newish white Corsa van parked outside my next door neighbours house and saw someone dressed in black with a hat on getting out of the passenger side and entering the front garden area of my property which is shielded from his view by a hedge. He went out of sight for quite a few minutes, and I assume he had gone down the un-lit path at the side and into my back garden, so my neighbour decided to put some clothes on and come out to see what they were up to.
He shouted accross the road telling them to clear off, and the suspicious guy soon re-appeared and jumped into the car and they drove off down Howden Road towards Silsden. A minute or two later the same car came back up Howden Road and headed up towards the Cemetery and was not seen again. The passenger was a white male with a bald head.
I am guessing the reason they turned round and came back up the same road, was that they did not want to risk passing the new cameras in the town.
I can see no obvious signs of an attempted break in anywhere, but I am now worried that they might come back for another go.
I know no one on here will be able to recognise the car or its occupants from the description I have given, but it looks like we need to be on the lookout for each other.
And yes I did report it to the Police, but dont hold out much hope there. |

sounds like you're lucky to have a great neighbour. in this weather there'll be burglars looking for open windows & doors so remember to keep 'em locked folks |

It's a pity that those who are supposed to kknow better didn't consult about the ANPR cameras with the people who actually live there and they would have been told that Howden Road is a main route in to Silsden favoured by druggies and other low life's! |

I have a feeling the mystery man could be our very own 'rotter'!!
He does seem to sell "a very wide range of goods"

A few years ago we had our garage broken into and power tools taken. Next day we found that a few neighbours had also been broken into. When the full story emerged, a gentleman living at the top of Howden Road had looked out of his windows in the early hours and spotted a white van parked on the opposite side of the road near the cemetery. He saw enough to make him call the police, but got no response. The "gang" stole Lampkins van and load it up with the stolen goods. The police came to see us next day, and when I said I was surprised that our security lights hadn't scared them off, the officer said that the person would be so high on drugs he wouldn't have noticed. The gang was working from the Lancashire area, and apparently the main person would be sat in the van watching, and he would send the youth spaced out with drugs to do the breakins. If they were caught he would just drive off. The gang was caught, but we never recovered our tools. If I were you I would be very aware this could happen again. |

there does seem to be quite a bit of unusual goings on up by the cemetery and also down by the swing bridge leading down to hainsworth road.I often see vehicles down there in the middle of the night, maybe just courting couples or could be more sinister.I wonder whether the police ever venture down there at night.A few days ago there were 2 idiots riding motorbikes on the canal towpath. |
