Topic : Rugby pitch WHAT A MESS |
|
| victor |
This morning there was a group of grownups with children on the rugby pitch, two of the children were on motorbikes and what a mess they have made of the rugby pitch. I don't know if this is allowed but it should not be. |
|
| Bricol |
Of course its not allowed. Even if only under road traffic act the bikes need to be road legal as its a public place that the public have access to. Next time simply ring 101 and report them. Bri |

The children were only five or six, so do they need legal documents. |

Their is a constant problem with damage to the playing surface on the field ,not only with inconsiderate parents with children on motor bikes , this is minimal and the surface will recover fairly quickly. The severe damage was caused by heavy commercial vehicles ,with the result now of damaged drains. Do your own calculation as to how much 4 or 5 heavy commercials weigh, my estimate is at least 100 ton, so that's all that weight parked on top of an earth banking that was never constructed to support all that weight. Is it worth the risk of a land slip just for a bit of entertainment. vehicle access has to be authorized by the council, i wouldn't put my name to it. |
|
| Bricol |
Only children - precisely my point. Not legal in any way what so ever on land the public have access to. And if you don' have private land to ride on, don't buy a motor bike! There's a few other twits ride bikes on the park too - and they are old enough to be riding them on the road. All fine and dandy until one of them mows down a toddler, little old lady etc etc. . . Bri |

They are kids at around 4 year old and they are electric bikes what you want them to do ride the streets |
|
| grandad |
jolmart, Whatever they are riding; or how old they are, the only places they are allowed to ride is,(1) If they meet all of the legal requirements they can ride on the highway. (2) If they do not meet all the legal requirements then the only place they can ride is private land on which they have got the owners permission. If the police catch them riding in the park they could get the bikes taken off them, and possibly the council will make the parents pay to repair the damage. |

Surely, that as a sports field it shouldn't be used for anything other than the purpose it was made for not as a play area or dog toilet facility. I also feel that parents are not encouraging children to be aware of what's not the done thing. |
|
| Peter |
Although this is not the done thing the damage is really a non event. If there handn't been so much rain you wouldn't have noticed anything after the event, and the damage done is no more than riding a bicycle across a wet lawn. Yes, it's not the thing to do and a little more consideration for other users of the park would have been nice, especially keeping off the rugby pitch - the big boys playing rugby can destroy that all by themselves without any help. In a weeks time you will not be able to see anything. Blame the adults if you must but not the children. |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) Serious question. Is the rugby pitch only for for use by rugby players or can other members of our community who do not play rugby also use it? |

It was created as a sports and recreation arena, so open to all sports and recreation I guess. From memory it was build as an army/forces exercise maybe late 60s early 70s but never added drainage so it swamped pretty easy. |
|
| robin |
The 'arena' was made in the 50s, from memory not with any specific purpose. As you say built without proper drainage. |

Both pitches can be used by anybody, there are restrictions, no camping /golf /archery /javelin /disc or shot put, no horses/riding or grazing /metal detecting/digging/powered model cars or aircraft, also kite flying ,parachute skate boarding ,car parking/ anywhere,in fact anything that inconveniences or endangers anybody else is not allowed. |

Hopefully the pitch will recover quickly it was only last year that Cllr Naylor had some drainage work done on the pitch I remember the pile of sand and the machine used to loosen the surface. |

TIC. Well that rules out most sports, dog walking and fun fairs? On a serious note, the pitch can get into a state in a VERY short space of time. I remember in the not too dim and distant past, sledging down the long banking on large pieces of cardboard, plastic sheets or anything else close to hand, when the weather was red hot. Looking at the park in more recent times , following both snow storms and heat waves , the park becomes an absolute bomb site. Some of the detritus left behind is both physically and environmentally damaging. Even with the planned drainage work, it will not prevent this level of damage. |

The previous posts are correct insofar that it was done as an Army/ Forces excersise.there was no paticular use planned for it. However the period was late 50s early sixties. I can remember the army personell being in Silsden..at that time. |

Unless you are a total hermit and spend all of your hours inside on a computer, you've probably visited a public park in your time. chances are you enjoyed the nice weather, enjoyed the scenery, or made use of the facilities. Parks are a beautiful thing to have and a privilege to enjoy. But it seems parks are being overlooked these days. Either they're not getting built at all, they're not taken proper care of, or they're not safe for people to enjoy anymore. This is a definite problem. Within the ever expanding urban environment parks are being pushed out of the picture and the people are paying for it. Parks are important for many reasons These include giving people a place to perform physical activity, a safe place for at-risk youth to play, and a preserved section of mother nature and the animals that inhabit it, among others. The fate of public parks falls into the hands of future designers. As they continue to erect buildings up and down the landscape, they mustn't forget the importance of the park. Hopefully the designers of the future will value parks as much as we do. |
