Could I make a request to all parents of children who deliver papers on bikes. Please make sure that there are lights on their bikes and they are wearing light coloured clothing. Your children are not visible on these dark nights and mornings.

they ride on the footpaths due to the pot holes in the roads also a lot of parents tell them to as it is safer on the footpath in the dark than on the road the young people do a really good job delivering the papers remember a lot of the time its to old people who can not get to the paper shops bit of praise not criticism would be nice for a changewink ;)

safer for who on the footpath localman???? so u condone cyclists using the footpath which is also illegal, what happens when they run into an old or any person who can!! go for a paper etc and u want to praise cyclists who use footpaths.a set of lights would solve the problem and if parent tell them to use pavements dont u think the cost of lights cheaper than running into someone and causing them injuryangryangry

dogcatcher have you got children I think not. look if they are on there bikes they have to go on the foot path to deliver the papers so if four houses are in a row they will stay on the foot path also never heard of any one being killed on a footpath by a child on a bike and thats a factrazz :p

Localman, this is the request - MAKE SURE they have lights on bikes and wear light coloured clothes TO KEEP THEM VISIBLE and SAFE (from dopey motorist who are not awake).

Will add my 10 penneth here.
The thread is about children on bikes without lights. Have yet to see a delivery boy WITH lights. Surely if parents tell their kids to ride on pavements ( which is illegal, surely ) they can insist their offspring are safer still by having a visible light.

look on most streets cars are parked nose to nose to ride the bike on the road they end up in the middle of the road which is where they are not supposed to be, also they are then having to ride or push there bikes between parked cars if they scratch one they get blamed? so they can not win also most paper shops issue the lads or lasses with high visible paper bags orange or yellow I agree with the lights issue and concede most do not have lights on there bikes but I would hate for a child to be killed on a bike because they were doing the RIGHT THING and riding in the middle of the road lights or no lights come on people we all rode our bikes on the foot paths when we were young and in fact we had dynamos on out bike which went off when you stopped.
