This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Hi, is anyone experiencing problems with Virgin TV and broadband at the moment around the Aire View part of silsden? My V+ box 'online' LED is flashing and I have no virgin internet. They came last monday to 'repair' the same fault but it came back yesterday. I think the road cabinet is to blame but wanted to know if anyone else is having the same problem.

Be careful when downloading between 4pm - 9pm weekdays and other peek times as NTL (rebranded Vrigin Media) will throttle your connection down to 1Mbps for approx 5 hours.

Your limit varies depending on which package you are subscribed to.
To my knowledge the limit ranges from 800MB - 2GB.

Silsden has never been serviced by Ntl, it was Telewest prior to Virginmedia. They also do not 'throttle' - there is no provision to do this. It is simply peak time bottlenecks.

NTL bought Telewest and later on bought Virgin Mobile giving NTL the ability to rebrand themselves Virgin Media!

And there was me thinking that my CEO reported to Dicky B and not the Huff Brothers....Still, if the BBC tells us how it really is.

It is now....

I've no reason to disagree that this latest downsize in his Virginmedia holdings is true. As a shareholder though Neil Burkett reports to Branson. Fact!

The 'takeover' was much more complicated than a simple buyout and FWIW I personally think there's something else going on in the background. BT take over the Orange switches. Orange join up with T-Mobile. VM carry all of Orange and T-Mobile traffic on their network.....!

Either way, Virgin still don't throttle your broadband.

Alright grandson, I'll agree to disagree with you on this one.

I think I'm right in thinking that you advised that all in Silsden would be throttled. As far as I know (and I'm not 100% sure here) this is the government telling VM (and all other ISP's) to stop the pirates i.e the top 5% at any time of the day.

You win mate.

You mean the 'Digital Britain Report'?
As far as I know nothing is set in stone and the ISP's are against kicking users as they claim it's not their place to police internet traffic but mainly because it's bad for business!

How can you disagree loafer, it's from the mouth of the Virgins? wink ;)

As for the top 5% being pirates, what an assumption! What about those, like my son, who download films legitamately from such as Sky?

Sounds like you have shares in Virgin or NTL whoever they are these days.

Thanks for that. My problem seems to be isolated to me, as is usually the case wink ;)

I have removed the splitter that links my broadband and set top box onto the one cable that comes into the house, plugged the set top box direct into the service box on the wall and I have at least restored my TV service until the engineer comes later today. I wouldn't mind but this is twice now in under a week!!
