Topic : The END of FREE car parks in Silsden? |

Will they be doing the same in Ilkley then? There's still a free car park there opposite the new cinema. |
|

Not good for St.John's Street, people who cant or will not pay 30p to park & in the process annoy residents who cannot park in their own street, |
|
| dogcatcher |
but its not their own street, a guy from london with a road legal car has as much right to park there as anyone who lives there. |
|
| Peter |
30p may not be much but will people pay it if they just want to pop into the shops? It an odd amount and is likely to be another nail in the coffins of our local shops. There doesn't seem to be any consultation for this change in car park charges and no understanding of the local economy from Bradford. This week Bradford have removed car parking spaces from Kirkgate and are about to do their best to discourage the locals from using the few spaces we have left in the car parks. .... and a final observation .. why is the fee for parking all day only £1.50 - a bargain, it should be at least £5.00 but parking for the first hour should be FREE. |
|
| grandad |
When Bradford first suggested they were going to start charging to park in Silsden, the then Parish council fought for; and won the 1/2 hr concession, in order to help local people and the local shops. This needs to be stopped by our local ward councillors, when it is finally decided at the area committee, lets see just who is here to help Silsden and which of them don't give a dam! There is at present a concession for disabled users to park free, there is no mention that the money grabbing sods in Bradford are still going to allow this. |

More scaremongering Grandad, try reading the information on the Bradford web site re- car parks. |

Peter it states that "all councils have parking concessions in their car parks for Blue Badge holders". |
|

Usual answer we get in this street. It gets beyond a joke when you cannot get parked up in your own street. I will give you a for instance, a car parked up outside our house, spoke to the individual, going on a canal barge trip for a week, couldn't see why they couldn't park outside my house. came from Norfolk, quite upset when I asked them to find a more suitable place to park. Eventually convinced them to move. We get this every day. We go shopping, come home, nowhere to park, have to carry our shopping home from hundreds of yards away. You think this is a joke, just ask any St.John's Street resident & they will respond in the same way. It aint funny!! |

Im sure Bradford Councils next money making scheme will be to make you pay for a permit |

gazer if you are issued with a Blue badge you also get a booklet telling you where you can and cannot park, you do not have to find out the information on the internet. |
|
| Peter |
Does it say a blue badge holder can park on a double yellow line? There was a car sporting a blue badge on the dash parked on the newly painted double yellow lines on Kirkgate this morning. They also encouraged a 4 x 4 to park on the double yellow lines which didn't have a blue badge. |
|
| victor |
Peter I didn't think any yellow lines had Blue Badges. Have a nice day. |
|
| bandnwire |
I have just read my booklet and it states"Badge holders may park on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours but in general not where there are restrictions on loading or unloading - indicated by yellow kerb dashes and/or signs on plates". |

If you can take a picture of motorist breaking road and traffic regulations ( including reg number) and send to West Yorkshire Police Street wise project they say they will take action. |

quotePeter it states that "all councils have parking concessions in their car parks for Blue Badge holders". Victor, Are you trying to be obtuse? there is a world of difference between Free unrestricted parking for blue badge holders and a concession. Skipton have concessions, Blue badge holders have to pay for a minimum of two hours; just like everybody else, but the concession is that they can stay one hour longer at no extra cost. I said, There is at present a concession for disabled users to park free, there is no mention that the money grabbing sods in Bradford are still going to allow this. |

Temporary Measures need temporary fixes. To allow disabled drivers to park up in this area in Kirkgate whenever they wish to do so at this time is ridiculous. The roadside needs to be kept clear to assist traffic flow. Surely these above-mentioned drivers must be aware of this. As a temporary measure signs should have been displayed banning all parking. |
|
| victor |
Grandad none of the car parks run by Bradford council have charges for Blue Badge holders. But if Silsden was in North Yorkshire as some would like then it could be different. |
|
| Peter |
Just a reminder.... This topic is about the letter published at the start of this topic... Bradford want to charge 30p to park in the Wesley Place and the Bridge Street car parks. THERE WILL BE NO FREE 30mins to pop into a local shop.... will YOU pay 30p, risk a fine, or shop somewhere else? |
|
| victor |
What a shame Peter people who can walk will have to walk. |
|
| grandad |
Victor, it is not scaremongering to point out that Bradford have not stated that they will continue to allow disabled people to park on the Silsden car parks for free. It will be too late when they have already stopped this vital concession. And just because Bradford; unlike North Yorkshire do allow free parking now does not mean they will not change their minds. Lets all stand together to safeguard what we have, before it is good for good. |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) Grandad can you tell me if any other car parks in the Bradford area have the free 30 min, because I don't know of any. If you think the one in Ilkley by the station is one and they loose it then we might loose the one at Steeton station. |
|
| Peter |
Hey Grandad, I have just pointed out this topic is about the charge for parking in our carparks and NOT disabled parking (in the car park) Why worry about disabled parking, if they have a blue badge they park anywhere they feel like parking, even on double yellow lines which as I witnessed yesterday caused a traffic jam. |
|
| dogcatcher |
this post has been edited 1 time(s) yes what a waste of two parking places for the disabled at top of town where the 2 seats are ive seen one disabled badged car parked there in 4 years, why have disabled bays if they can park anywhere' '); |
|
| grandad |
Peter, If you read the facts about just where drivers can park with a disabled badge, you will see they cannot park anywhere. They can park on yellow lines; yes But not if in doing so they cause an obstruction. |
|
| grandad |

If you think the one in Ilkley by the station is one and they loose it then we might loose the one at Steeton station. Victor, please explain just what you mean by this post? I understand the bit about the 30 mins; but not the rest of it. The 30 mins was fought for and won for the people of Silsden by the then Parish council, when Bradford wanted to impose the charges on Silsden's car parks in the first place. The bit about Ilkley and Steeton stations I do not understand. |

Grandad, stop being pedantic. please! |
|
| grandad |
How is getting things right being pedantic? |
|
| Peter |
Sigh! |
|
| dogcatcher |
i thought double yellow lines where put everywhere that IS dangerous. |
