This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

I have just walked over Brunthwaite Canal bridge and seen several bags of dog mess piled on the grass bank next to the wall, I am appalled at the ignorant and arrogant attitude of some dog owners in Silsden.
To leave your dog mess there shows a total lack of respect for the environment and other users of the cannel.
TAKE IT HOME.

I agree with what you are saying, but the chances of them seeing your message on here a probably a bit slim.

We saw it yesterday and I must say, we were pretty disgusted that someone did that. There used to be a bin there for people to use, always full it was too. Must be a reason for them to remove it but at what cost to the countryside.

Please don't post the fact the bin has gone missing on here - report it to Bradford.

Last week a dog owner put a full poo bag in our recycling bin put out for collection, didn't even tie the bag, left a horrible mess, and there is a council bin 10 yards away they could have put it in!
That's the mentality of these sad people, drop their dog's crap on to other people is their motto. angry

Now here's an idea for the council to look at

ITS about time Silsden had its own dog hygiene officer who patrolled all the main area`s of Silsden , PARKS, MAIN STREETS,Canal tow paths , side streets and actually eradicated the poo , by removing said poo , and disinfecting the place , surely this is a sensible part time job for someone...

It's a good idea in principle. It comes back to council spending, or lack of it. BMDC are more than happy to sit on £90 m in artworks, spend £1.2 m on decorating office suites that the general public have either no or very limited access, water turbines, muddy pools in the city centre etc. when it comes to frontline services such as dog wardens, countryside wardens and rangers, they have no funds!

Before Bradford assumed "control", Silsden had its own small council yard, with grit stores, paving stones, sets, hard core, offices with public contact points. All of these have been sold off under the guise of centralization. Next year, when the Tour de France comes to town, Silsden will not have one set of public toilets open, because Bradford can't afford to run them?

As gross as it sounds, I would personally like to take a part time job patrolling the park, the towpath and other hot spots, but the funding is not in place to make these positions available.
