This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

I see it is finally happening, or so the signs proclaim that hopefully in a couple of weeks I will be able to drive between Ilkley and Silsden without the daily problem of having to swerve around the many and varied potholes. I am sure it is worth a couple of weeks of traffic inconvenience to get the repairs done.

I haved to say i was impressed with the repairs in Ilkley town centre, and they were even completed a day early. Let's hope they last a while before more holes start to appear.

The trouble is that these repairs are taking a big lump of the money that Bradford has for road repairs, and they only got the road of the Highways Agency a few years ago.

Means that this cost comes out of OUR council tax and NOT the government, I think they were sold a pup!

It's not just the Addingham bypass which is going to cost money after being taken over by the local authority.

Has anyone noticed the Aire Valley Motorway (A629) is sinking rapidly. When it rains large puddles form on the carriageway, aquaplaning is a fact of life on this road now.

It's dangerous! sad :(

I seem to remember it was detrunked also and taken over by Bradford, I wonder IF they had an independant survey BEFORE they agreed to take it over?

Silly me, this is Bradford we are talking about! wink ;)

Addingham bypass work to start
9:30am Thursday 26th February 2009

Work is to start on Monday to resurface the A65 between Lumb Gill Lane, Addingham, and the roundabout where it joins the A6034 Silsden Road.

Peter, the A629 dual carrageway is not a motorway!
Yes it has been sinking ever since they built it, they treid to dig down to a solid base but the workings kept flooding so they decided not to bother. The sign at each end of the Addingham bypass says work is to start on Monday the 2nd March, it should be interesting to see just how much it stops traffic.

Right, so hands up who doesn’t refer to the A629 by this name?

Anyone in there right mind would have avoided the maintenance responsibility of this road, because anyone who has done GCSE and studied the local geology will know the road is built over a glacial lake and it is impossible to stop it sinking over time.

So when the Highways Agency bribed Bradford to take over the maintenance of the de-trunked A629 they were supposed to maintain it.

We now have litter decorating the central reservation and verges - perhaps they think it will blow away! Every year the ragwort gets worse – this is the yellow flower which flowers along the central reservation and verges and can kill cattle and doesn't do sheep any good either. Ragwort should be eradicated by law, but when was the last time you noticed the central reservation area of the A629 had been cut?

The carriageway is sinking and when it rains large puddles form, but then puddles are one of those phenomena which simply disappear PROBLEM WHAT PROBLEM?

The road is dangerous!

(sorry for going off topic but the Addingham bypass is going to be fixed, the Aire Valley Motorway carries much more traffic and nothing is being done. Perhaps there has to be a fatality due to poor maintenance first)

Grandad if you read my post on the Silsden Motorway you would see that the original intention was that it was going to be a motorway (M650) intil the tree huggers got in the way!

i should imagine any animal walking onto the central reservation of the 'a629 dual carriageway' to eat ragwort is putting their life at risk!

We will have to wait to see how pretty the central reservation is later in the year. The same pretty yellow colour I suspect.

I wonder how bad the dips in the road (which collect the large puddles) have to get before anything is done?
