I am researching my family history and come to a standstill at John Tillotson baptised 12 September 1736. I think he was a linen weaver and may have married a Susannah. I am trying to find out who his parents were. It may be Thomas Tillotson but I need to find more detail. Can anyone help? Many thanks |

If John was born in 1736 then you'd look for a marriage around that date as well to Mary. I did a quick search for Thomas Tillotson's marriage to Mary between 1730 and 1740 and only came up with the cross-reference to John's birth record, so that didn't help. We usually assume the first child is born when the parents are about 20 so from this you work out that Thomas and Mary might have been born about 1720. So you look for the birth of Thomas Tillotson between 1715 and 1725 and hope he hasn't moved far from Kildwick. you get to this page... https://www.familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3Athomas~%20%2Bsurname%3Atillotson~%20%2Bbirth_place%3Ayorkshire~%20%2Bbirth_year%3A1715-1725~ and that's about all that I have time for... good luck Sorry I can't get the links to link, maybe Peter will edit if he see this but if not just copy the full link and paste in the address bar at the top of your browser window. |
