Are you suggesting we set up a curfew in Silsden ?

Would it not be more PC for Brad Met to provide Silsden with facilities for the young un's to use then they would not have to hang around the streets.

Alternatively we could disguise a horse drawn cage as an Ice cream van and employ a child catcher. (I have a contact who might be able to get us a magical flying car, it could also double as the mayoral limousine)

And finally I need to ask what the bread van is doing delivering in the evening, is it not normally the case that the bread is baked overnight and then delivered fresh the next morning, during the week there is always a little white van parked on the end of Aire View at 8am delivering freshly baked bread etc to Hills.

Or have we discovered something more sinister, are Warburtons off loading day old bread onto Silsden

Perhaps the rear gunner will get the drunken oldies standing smoking on the pavements at night?

I hope so!

HB is quite right, what's wrong with kids smashing bottles on the main street, causing countless acts of vandalism and harrasing members of the public who pass by?

look, they've even been receiving some good press:

i used to hang about when i was a teenager, at the youth club or in the park..... (never on street corners i add!!)..... the thing that stopped me from misbehaving was my PARENTS cos they would check up on me and take responcibility for my behaviour. I wasn't afraid of the passing bobby but the unscheduled appeareance of my parents. FACT.

yup just need a pressure washerlaugh :D

yup when i was a kid at poplar house bingley we went to the school yard to play football every night
(broke a few windows with mis directed shots)
but the headmaster turned up one night and said he would prefer a few broken windows from us doing what kids should be doing than us vandalising the school or playing in the roads

I agree with babba100,

its a few years ago but I hung aroung with my mates. I think there are a small few and i mean a small few who give all kids a bad name.

Im sorry when i said let kids be kids i didnt mean breaking in to cars and settind places on fire. but hanging around in groups is what kids have always done. but in my day we had respect for our parents, and when we were told off we were told off!

agreed hb
theres no respect for elders these days
we knew if we got a certain look off mum we had to run
(stupid really we always got the slipper in the end)
there has to be a certain amount of punishment and fear for kids to respect you

if parents only say timmy dont do that its not nice
were is the detterant
if it ends in a slipper to the ass you will think twice about doing it again

My husband remembers the local bobby chasing him and his mates up Sykes Lane bent on corporal punishment over 70 years ago. It was only for stealing apples though! He was known as Bobby Dable, and he was famous for administering a smart clip around the ear. Does anyone else remember him?

My gosh you can tell i've had a drink tonight!!

Would it not make sence to put lights up by the ramps? (God I hope thats not happened in the last year or i'm going to look a right fool!)Obviously the kids like hanging around their as i'm sure they feel it's more "their" place. I know as a young teenage i wouldn't have wanted to hang around somewhere that wasn't lit. Maybe if this was they wouldnt feel the need to stay on the main street.

I lived up by the park and on several occasions had to go out to the "youths" hanging around my house. Everytime i did this it was because they were near my car. I asked them politely if they'd move away. They never back chatted or did any harm i just didn't want them around my car. They moved on, no problem. I even went out one night..to my husbands horror to ask them to keep the noise down, bearing in mind they weren't really noisey, it was middle of summer. i was heavily pregnant and I had the window open, again nothing. maybe we don't credit the right youths with the praise they deserve, they aren;t all bad.

What clubs do we have for them to do? Especially ones that don't make them loose face with their friends? (Boys)

Whoever said it's down to the parents? yes i agree they have to take some responsability. You say you remember the times your parents hit you? I don;t remember once mine hitting me (i'm not saying it didn't happem)but mine didn;t have to hit us because as soon as they raised their voice it had the right effect. I was petrified of my dad shouting at me and heaven forbid he swore! I was so scared of being told off by someone out of the family, as were my brothers that we very rarely needed telling off. The reason for this???? RESPECT! Thats what they need.............

Well once again i'm on my soap box, i will now try and get down!

When I were a lad of 11+ I, like most of my mates, joined the Boy Scouts. We lit fires, through knives between each others feet (spit the kipper)and generally had a good time. Now and again we had to show up on some public parade, everyone with their best sheath knives on display.

At school I joined the Cadets. Here we ran around with real guns. The school had an out door rifle range. One kid playing football ran in from once and got shot. would be front page news today, did not even make the local paper.

Not forgetting the old motor bikes we played in the fields with.

I feel sorry for the kids. Look what adult wimps have done to their lives.

i get so anrgy when people blame the parents. you cant watch your child 24 hours aday , many times they tell you they are going to a mates so you beleive them how are you to know that they are hanning out on the streets. are you all sure you know where your children are.
