This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

640 jobs could be axed at Bradford Council

reduced amounts for adult and children’s services, potential library closures, a 20 per cent decrease in winter gritting, and an end to council funding for police community support officers (PCSOs)

the authority is proposing an increase of 1.6 per cent in each of the next two years, equating to a rise of £1.54 a month for a Band D household.

cuts included in the consultation include fewer staff delivering adult social care, reduced funding for educational services, further cuts to youth services and all but the seven most heavily-used libraries would become community-managed.

bin collections would change from weekly to alternate weeks, a charge of £40 a year would be introduced for those wanting green waste collection, some selected street lights would be turned off between midnight and 5am, and rate relief would be reduced for non-profit organisations.

Why not go back to the old system, councillors serving for the honour of being a councillor. Meetings wouldn't take half the time. And cost nothing.

Couldn't agree more Robin. Why are Bradford met still recruiting "strategic/executive directors", when several departments already have several? Why are they even contemplating pay rises, when they are under achieving? Why do they not respond to these points when asked? Why are they sitting on labs & buildings that are not being used constructively?

robin, you mean make them just like the Town Council?
And before anybody take a swipe at our Town council I think they do a very good job for us all.

Why not go back to the system of the local authority be 100% responsible for its expenditure and tax raising via the rates?
