This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

For the first time I walked along the track up behind Cringles caravan park. There seems to be this dump area with odd caravans up there. Anyone know anything about it. I assumed it would all be farm land but was surprised to find an eyesore, all be it one hidden by woods.shocked 8O

Also the public footpath was not sign posted although it goes through this 'tip area'. Ended up walking across a field to escape this 'strange zone'sad :(

The sad thing "wahiba" is that it can be seen on Google Earth, so it has been there for a while!

A sad day Silsdens rubbish can be spotted from space happy :)

There are a couple of farmyards in Silsden which could easily be mistaken for scrapyards too... one of them has the "Millenium Way" footpath going through it (maybe both).

It is just down from the weir. I think it is the back of a take a way. Must admit I noticed it myself the other day. Good idea to post such things here.

It has been reported and as far as I know action has been instigated - watch this space as they say!

this post has been edited 1 time(s)

It has been reported happy :)to district councillors and officers of Bradford council very vigorously by the town council.

However, town councillors don't have any powers to do anything other than jump up and down about these problems, which they do!

But "ginjo" if you want to do something you can complain to the three district councillors and to the various officers of the council.

I'd be interested in any ideas anyone has to promote a little more pride in the town by a certain minority who like to litter the town centre and put up eyesores like the flues in the picture!

A coat of heat resistant black paint would improve the chimney. The real problem is the rubbish causing a health problem.

The real problem "wahiba" is a lack of respect for the community they make their money from!

You got it in one. Alan.
They make their money from the people of Silsden, so if the people stop shopping there until they clear up the mess, then they will either clear it up, or clear out!

do they need planning permission for the massive flues? its unbelievable that such monstrosities are allowed in a conservation area.Presume environmental health are on to the rubbish problem.I will certainly report it to them

I have a simple solution, I don't buy from those who show no respect for the town!

The easiest and quickest way to sort this is to report it to Environmental Health - they've been at least twice before. The rubbish gets cleared - it builds up again, but at least it gets cleared away and the rats have nothing to eat!!

I have reported it to environmental health.
I walked through silsden on sunday afternoon and was ashamed to live here. There were empty beer bottles discarded everywhere, empty take away cartons, chips rice etc all over the pavements and I notice that the window at picturesque was broken, looked like it had been hit with something, hopefully not a bullet!! Can the council put pressure on environmental health or whichever body is in charge, to get premises closed down if they do not do something about the rubbish they generate.Pubs should not allow drinks to be taken outside.

No doubt it's a hard job for environmental health to close them down.

But like I said before part of the answer is in our own hands! If we don't think a business shows respect for the town and the people why should we use them?

apparantly this shop is empty, and I understand that a new take away is to open.I do not know who owns the premises so not sure who is responsible, tennant or landlord. I am not sure that " alans" solution is very helpful, I can see what he is saying but there are plenty of people who use the takeaways when they have had a skinful and they could not give a damn about rubbish, they contribute to a lot of it.The council should come down hard on businesses who are responsible for contributing to the mess, I think they (the council) did in the Leeds Road area of Bradford.

Is that rubbish in the picture or is that a cheaper way of keeping the food cool?

hi,new this site so bear with me.many years ago i frequently used the footpath leading out to fabulous countryside at the top of 'the tip'through what i believe is an area that has something to do with chris atkinson, one of our esteemed council representatives.now what i would like to know is,has anyone used this footpath in recent years?the reason i ask is that the very last time i used it (with my dogs)i felt distinctly unwelcome in the area, litter ,scrap and chained dogs going nuts when you were passing their cages.i felt sad then and still do.

The area in the picture (by the beck) has now been cleared. There are still a few bits of rubbish but it looks much better, thanks to all that did something to make it happen. I'm sure there are a few more areas which should cleaned up so I will keep this post open.

The rubbish was still there when I went past on saturday afternoon, according to environmental health, it all has to be removed by the end of today. Some of the other properties that back onto the beck are not exactly nice to look at, perhaps everyone should make more of an effort to keep the rear of their premises looking nice.

bobber why is it everyone and his dog has it in chris atkinson. The guy works hard at his job and do`es his upmost for Silsden where he was born and raised. If you look at the place that was once the tip,and then was the green where the locals held events and played you can then moan about any eyesore in the town.

hey,i don't want to upset chris or his fan club.all i want to know is wether the marked footpath leading through his land has been made anymore welcoming than it certainly was NOT, many years ago.any spoiling of right of way, whoever they are is to be frowned upon.oh by the way i have no personal vendetta against chris whatsoever.although by the sound of your tones others do.
