This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Since the postal service was changed a few months ago resulting in losing the regular postmen that we were used to, does anyone now experience the same problem that we are having in that the new postmen will not close gates.

The regular postmen that we used to have always closed the gates and were far more friendlier than the present ones.
I was always taught to leave things how you find them but when you watch the postmen coming they open the gate to enter then just walk out without closing and you can see them doing the same to every house up the road. It's very annoying.

I did complain to the sorting office manager when it first happened, and to be fair, the postman started closing the gate, now we have another postman we are back to square one. Aren't they taught to close gates? After saying that, they shouldn't have to be taught it should be common sense.

Put a return spring on your gate, that way he will have to open it twice and cannot leave it open.

Or push the post through the letter box so it rips everything!! This doesn't happen all the time as the lady who usually does our post now is lovely if it did happen all the I would complain! Oh I also dont like it when they change over at the top of the street and stand there smoking!

Anyhow I am always so polite and nice to mine but he just has a face on, I'm hoping one day he will smile, but if you hate your job that much then really quit and do something where you're happier.....

I really can't understand why they can't keep the same postman on a round so you can get to know him and he can get to know you. Why swap & change?

Another point is that the Royal Mail have the monopoly which is not a good thing in business as it isn't in the public's interest. I'm sure a few years ago the government were going to abolish the monopoly on the mail but that seems to have now gone by the wayside.

The monopoly on small letters enables a cost effective service to those in far out places - it could be argued that we are paying to keep postage prices to the Shetlands low).
As for the chopping and changing of postmen - annoying, very annoying but it is to save money by rostering (on paper this may save money but i suspect that they lose a fair bit in wrongly delivered items, we'll see how long it lasts!!)
