This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Given the increasing amount of rubbish building up beside peoples wheelie bins,do we think it will be taken away this week without mutterings and moanings from the collectors? And if it is taken i wonder if they'll get overtime pay because it takes them longer?

Never have any trouble with them, every week they take away extra bags next to the bin, and owt else I leave.

Perhaps the secret is being polite with them and treating them like intelligent human beings! It works wink ;)

oh heck i seem to have opened a real can of worms! I certainly wasn't moaning.....simply making a comment. And i endeavour to be polite and civil with everyone regardless of their occupation! The simple fact is we could "all" do with a pay rise right now

try recycling more and you wouldn't have as much refuse..as for them paying overtime they wont give them a pay rise so why would they then pay them overtime...and as for being missed for 3 weeks try putting you bins out on time so they can then be emptied...wink ;)

"try recycling more and you wouldn't have as much refuse.."...... but they are worse at collecting the recycling, one lady had to start throwing glass in the normal bin as she had filled her recycling bin (full size bin) as they didnt collect it for 6 months.

"as for them paying overtime they wont give them a pay rise so why would they then pay them overtime..."

are you talking about a pay rise or an inflation rise? if you are talking about a pay rise then they possibly shouldnt get one if they keep missing bins!

"and as for being missed for 3 weeks try putting you bins out on time so they can then be emptied..."

they have been out next to our neighbours whose has been collected, but they have missed theres sometimes but emptied ours. its like they choose one of the two to do!

dont get me wrong i know bin men have a hard job to do, my dad was one, and i have a lot of respect for them. However standards and objectives should be set, as they are for other key workers such as nurses, teachers, librarians....... a lot of who do not get overtime!

I started giving them a pay rise a few years ago about 10 pence a week per crew i save this up all year and at christmas i give them the fiver that they deserve and i couldnt have better binmen if i advertised for them, they also take EVERYTHING i put out .I come from the era that if someone earns a tip, they get one

i agree, good work deserves a tip. what i don't agree with is the thought theat everyone should get a tip even is the service is poor!

bob T the bin men really do appreciate all the tips they get at christmas...and as for recycle or refuse if there are any problems ring b direct on 01274 431000 and they should follow it up with your actual crew...they dont pick and choose which bins to take or leave unless its full of garden waste or too heavy with rubble really there is no other reason to leave bins.. if you have any problems ring the number above....

i'll gladly tip these marvelous 'binmen' at christmas.they want more money than anyone of us is likely to get as a rise this year, they come round at just past six am (and i don't want to hear about those that are up and awake by five o'clock!! cos most of us aren't)and what's more there finished when the jobs done without putting their brain into gear once!!!!!

bobber you obviously have your brain cell in gear dont you..how much money do you think they earn..people say that they run round just to get finished early.so wot..if they started at 9am and walked round all day sat and had dinner for an hour belive or not many of the rounds would not finish...and as for just taking bags out of the bins and leaving the poo bags in the bottom why dont you put the poo bags in the bin bags with the rest of you waste...and then it would all be taken...

because we dont have too much proper refuse as we have a glass and can bin a paper bin
we throw plastic bottles down cellar and take them to the recycling behind library when we have alot

all cardboard/veg waste etc go's in our compost dalek in the garden
as to the poo bags the dog is pretty tidy but asking her to store all the weeks poop in her ass and depositing it in a bin liner every wednesday night aint really an option
and if you think im keeping a weeks worth of dog mess in the bin in the kitchen forget it

plus we all have wheely bins as the trucks are made to scoop up bins and empty them so why cant they do the job properly and empty the whole bin

@ Bob T

I have worked for Bradford council and a relative still does.Within the past couple of years the catering and care workers were given back dated pay because the last time the poor binmen kicked off for more money other workers pay scales were not brought into line.

I rang Bradford council on Thursday about the bins not being collected on Wednesday, and they told me our binmen were not on strike, they were helping out elsewhere because of the strike, and our bins would be sorted shortly......they are still there, presumably will be collected this week!

Why do people still think that binmen (or whatever the P.C. term for them nowadays is) should be tipped at Christmas. I'm sure nobody will tip me for doing what I get paid to do this year....again!

Well Bob T, I'm from my generation and we appreciate good service too; but I also expect it without offering, effectively, a bribe to continue receiving it.

Pray tell me though, Bob T, how can my choosing my username after my favourite chub Fishing Float be indicative of my reluctance to tip people?

you need a better dog bobber
daisy picks up the poo bags trots into the garden with them in her mouth rips one off the roll
aranges it on the floor squats over it and then trots round to the bin to deposit it
very tidy lil doggy
