IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter, i think the site is great, but i dont feel it gets the coverage it deserves, maybe increasing the advertising would help? if you are stuck on ideas to advertise i would be more than happy to help, as this is my field of work.... |
| Peter |
The site gets 350+ visitors a day and servers up 1200+ local pages (I can't count the off site pages which are linked to from the site eg the weather, uk news etc.) - not bad for a town of some 8,000 people. I host and maintain this site for love, some sponsorship in the way of advertising would be appreciated - see www.silsden.net/b-cards/b-card_enquiry.htm If you would like a website, hosting, email etc. then have a look at www.faxsol.co.uk To make this site even better I need news items www.silsden.net/silsden_news/news1.asp and event information www.silsden.net/calendar2/default.asp If you send informtion to the local press put silsden.net on your email list, I will be happy to promote local events and stories. Contact details: www.silsden.net/about/email.shtm silsden.net is basically a list of my favourite links and somewhere to find them online, I hope you enjoy the links and find them useful. Why not tell friends you found the information on silsden.net Peter |

Hi Jimbo, this sounds like another example of you talking from the wrong end, and going of half cocked. You realy should get the facts before you write, Peter is doing a great job, thank you very much. |
| jimbo |
uncle tom, i dont know if you had your reading glasses on when you logged on yesterday but if you were able to see my post regarding the site i think you will find i stated 'the site is great', so your little tirade of abuse has somewhat backfired, all i wanted to do was increase the popularity of the site........... |
| Peter |
What do you suggest? |
| alan |
Nowt wrong with the site Peter. You do a fantastic job for Silsden. |
| Uncle Tom |
Jimbo. I had my reading glasses on, perhaps you did not have your thinking head on when you wrote what you did. Yes you said it was great, and then went onto to point out what was needed to improve it. If it is great, it does not need improving so leave it along. Just another example of your muddled thinking that allows you to criticise everyone else except yourself |
| Peter |
Hey Guys, I am always open to suggestions about how to improve and publicise the site. quoteSo "jimbo" what are your suggestions? |
| jimbo |
uncle tom, oh dear, your lost post will have raised a few smiles from the more intelligent folk amongst us....'if the site is great it doesnt need improving' you quoted, how ridiculous? why settle for anything in life? why not grow and expand? its because the site is great that there is potential for it to be taken to the next level, to suggest it has gone as far as it can is a shame, if you have a shred of ambition and positivity about you you will understand that everything in life can be improved. suggestions increased advertising, competitions, games quizzes get local businesses to make greater contributions to the site history of silsden section plenty more ideas if needed... |
| Peter |
quoteThese are all stock answers.. advertising cost money WHY NOT TELL A FRIEND YOU FOUND IT ON SILSDEN.NET Competitions - tried it didn't work, there are a few simple games www.silsden.net/games/games.htm , more comprehensive games would attract the wrong people to the site with no interest in local matters. Quizzes, there is a quiz which is changed every week at the bottom of the front page. get local businesses to make greater contributions to the site - now that I do need to work on. history of silsden section - see www.silsden.net/TDS/TDS_pages/silsden_tds_02.htm and the section LOCAL HISTORY on the sidebar menu. I will repeat - this site gets about 350+ visitors/day from around the world. Many of them are local as you can see from this forum. Visitors look at 1200+ pages which are hosted on this site every day and use it as a resource for many other items of interest. Please write to me about your other ideas www.silsden.net/about/email.shtm Thanks, Peter |

Perhaps "jimbo" could turn some of his ideas in to pages for you Peter? |
| jimbo |
Peter, you seem happy to settle with 350 users, why not grow and expand, silsden has a population of just under 8000 and your happy with a mere 350, it should be pushing a four figure number in my view. i dont see how 'quizzes' would attract the wrong type of people? are u suggesting it is only a certain type of person that enters competition? ridiculous. increasing the profile of the site is essential and if somebody logs on to play a game rather then read about silsden, it will only benefit the site in the long run. food for thought... |
| alan |
"Jimbo" why don't you put up and show us hicks the way? |
| Peter |
Jimbo you don't know what you are talking about. I host and design websites. I also host other peoples sites which are promoted by the owner of the site. At best most sites achieve a 2:1 page/visitor ratio, some only a 1:1 ratio. silsden.net achieves a ratio of 3:1 i.e. on average people look at least 3 local pages and this is not counting pages linked to on external sites. It was setup to be a service to the local community and to be a resource. I am happy for the visitor numbers to increase at a steady rate. The rate of increase is consistent quarter on quarter (about 75% on a year - and has been every year for the last 3 years). Visitors are mostly local but I get emails from around the world. If you want to play games find a games site. Site competitions do not work on this site but if you feel like sponsoring one we can give it a go, your money should be quite safe! BTW have you tried putting Silsden into the popular search engines to see where this site is ranked? |

a good addition to this site would be a section on local walks. there are plenty of footpaths round here, and i feel they should be used more to encourage the local farmers to be more accepting of this, rather than making some paths inaccessible. |
| Peter |
There are details of some local walks available from the sidebar menu > Local information > walks .... but the list is far from comprehensive for the walks which are available around Silsden. You used to be able to buy a booklet with details of about 8 local walks from Twiggs .... don't know if it is still available! What we could really do with is more like this www.bradford.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/8F03058E-1FC5-4EBD-9E14-3ECDEB7AA16D/0/Doubler_Stones_Walk.pdf If only we could persuade Bradmet to produce some more! I have also received the suggestion for information on the shops in Silsden... I'm working on it. Please keep sending your suggestions to improve the site. |
| Peter |
I am very please to be able to tell you Jack Pollard's website with 12 walks around Silsden is now available from the sidebar menu local information > "Jack's walks" or by clicking www.walking-hiking-rambling-in-yorkshire.co.uk/ |
