This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

We'll the ramp ain't done much good. At 9:40 this morning a lady two steps across from the town hall and me + Labrador one step across from chapel side. Nearly mowed down by White Toyota. Presumably the driver felt the rules didn't apply to them.

Don't you know?
The rules don't apply to any 4x4 drivers!

Which way was the car going?

It is worth a fine and 3 points on your licence for failing to stop for a pedestrian on a Zebra Crossing.

Report this to the police giving all the details that you have mentioned here, the date, time and make and colour of the car, and ask them whether it has been picked up on any of the cameras pointing up or down Silsden main street.
At a previous meeting the lady Sergeant said that they would prosecute in cases like this.

Really this crossing is badly located, or alternatively, the parking on the duck pond side below the crossing is badly located.

When driving "uphill" along the main street it can be impossible to see if anyone is waiting/crossing from outside the church because of usually a large vehicle (possibly with cars behind it) that will be waiting between the zebra and the parked cars for a gap in the traffic coming the other way so it can pull out and go past the parked cars.

I'm always very aware that I'm approaching a zebra and I can't see one end of it, and pedestrians waiting, or crossing from that side can't see me. It's very dangerous and I always slow right down, must annoy drivers behind me I suppose, but I can live with that, I'd really hate to run into someone.

In my opinion this is a bigger danger than the Bell Square junction onto Bolton Road. At least bad drivers there are unlikely to hit pedestrians.

ps. I alwys make sure I've eyeballed (made eye contact with) drivers before I step onto a zebra, or seen them slow down having seen me standing there. This goes for both directions and I won't start until I'm happy they've seen me and are stopping. Those thick black and white lines are no protection against a two ton steel box at 30mph.
