This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

1,Is traffic calming in Elliott Street a good idea. All you need is a couple of buses going up Elliott St at 3-30pm and the fire engine wont stand a chance of getting down Elliott St.
2,Will the electrical contractors working down fromm Bolton Rd dig up the new traffic calming when they reach Elliott St.
3.Coming out of Bell Sq on to Bolton Rd is an accident blackspot.I believe this is caused by an optical illusion. If a driver(usually 2nd queing to get out)on reaching the junction looks right then left before pulling out he may miss the sight of a car outside Aire Valley Insurance/Off shop. This is because your eyesight is drawn down by the church. When you pull out the car coming up hits you.Its always a car coming up kirkgate and never down Bolton Road. This junction needs at least to be a "STOP" junction certainly not a "GIVE WAY"

The whole idea of bringing traffic out of Bell Square has been flawed from the outset, traffic originaly came down Briggate to a roundabout. There were no problems, everyone had a fair chance. Making Briggate one way and opening up Bell Square is just another example of Greater Bradford's non planning.

Another accident at the Bell Sq junction yesterday.Same again car pulling out of Bell Sq didnt see car coming UP Bolton Road.
Now if I can see what the problem is why cant Bradford Council.
The work on Elliott St is progressing slowly.I can remember when Elliott St was an oficial free car park. Then it became normal street parking. Now we see the number of cars that can park is being halved again.
Next people will wonder why the shops at the bottom of Kirgate are struggling.BUT THERE WILL BE NO WHERE TO PARK!!!!!!

There is always the car park. Free for half an hour, and more often free all day as the machine is bust. never seen it full. Trouble is to use it means walking more than a couple of steps. And before someones goes on about the disabled just see who actually parks on the street? The only disability for 99% is being able to navigate from the car park to the shop.

The Town Council have been asking for a mini roundabout at the end of Bell Square for years, Bradford Highways don't beleive the junction is a problem, No one has yet been killed there, no injury accidents don't get reported so they don't appear on any record, what is needed is for everyone who as ever had an accident at this spot to write to the town council with their details and the date and time costs etc. so it can go to Bradford with the evidence

The police who attended the incident made a note that the road markings are no longer clearly visible. So if the council will be repainting lets get it sorted BEFORE someone gets killed.

To some extentyou are right about peoples driving to shops habit. But with your argument people will still get in their cars and if they cant park in Silsden will just go out of town. You could use an the words "off spite face nose cut" to describe your argument.I would rather have parking at the bottom end of town & a thriving shopping street
