With the raising of the pavement on both sides of the Town Hall crossing - a prerequisite to the ski-ramp which will be created (the raised crossing) - has anybody noticed how steep the pavement is now by the entrance by the Methodist Church.
How can they justify making the pavement so steep but still go ahead with the proposed ramp into the Town Hall - the excuse being that to make a ramp straight into the hall will not meet disabled requirements because it would be too steep.
The ramp which will be built to enable access into the hall will:
1. By Bradford's own admission not fully comply with disabled requirements. The only place it will be the required disabled width of 1.5m is in the entrance of the Town Hall, and the the only way it can achieve this is by using the actual entrance.
2. The ramp will take up pavement space. The pavement will become 1.5m wide. Disabled, mother and child, man and dog, will have to pass each other on the restricted pavement width of 1.5m
3. The raised crossing will make it easier for traffic to mount the pavement at the point the pavement is only 1.5m wide.
Myself and others had our say at the planning enquiry when we argued the ramp was unsafe, we were ignored!
BRADFORD it's not too late to change your mind about the external disabled ramp and make this internal to the building. |

Peter, Malinson's mob have had to do this so they do not loose face, over the fact that the whole fiasco was a none starter from the beginning, it was done purely to get back at our Town Council, for him and his man being asked to leave a meeting. Sour grapes that will infect the whole Town for years to come! |

I really don't care about past politics and you can make up your own mind about whose fault it is at the local elections in May.
However, we have now got a Town Hall which has been well refurbished, but the disabled part of the refurbishment (when the ramp is put in) will not be fit for purpose and will endanger users of the building and pedestrians using the pavement. |

So what's your point Peter? we all know it is a total waste of money, and it will be a useless death trap for everybody who goes into it. Bradford have done the same has they always do ride roughshod over the Town, even when the inevitable death happens they will wriggle out of taking responsibility. |

My point is the pavement gradient can be changed but they can get away with it. However, if it was called a disabled ramp it has to meet a gradient requirement.
This doesn't seem to apply to the width of the disabled ramp which can be below the minimum requirement as long as a wheelchair can be turned around at some point on the ramp (only at the entrance of the Town Hall). Bradford is playing fast and loose with the disability minimum requirements! |

Ideal disability access to the town hall can be accomplished in a number of ways.
1 Knock it down and build a new one.
2 Close off the road and build the perfect ramp.
3 Knock down buildings to the side to ensure the right type of access.
Anything else is a compromise. If you cannot live with a compromise then just close the place as that is the only affordable solution under this current central control Stalinist type government the majority of you in Silsden, a Tory town voted for.

Whats the Government got to do with this...its a Labour controlled Council who own the building and who applied for planning permission and carried out the work. You do seem to want to blame central Government but I can not understand how you draw that conclusion. The buck stops with local politicians from whatever political party. Unless you believe if you say it often enough people will think its true!! |
