This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

when is something going to be done about cars parking on the pavement. I am fed up of having to try and squeeze past /walk in the road or cross over. Not only is it illegal, it causes damage and puts pedestrians in danger, it must be a nightmare for people with pushchairs or in wheelchairs. I cannot remember the last time I saw police round waterside/Ingsway.They would have a field day.Maybe we should name and shame the culprits by posting their reg no's on the web!!

Roads are for traveling on. Any vehicle parked on the road is causing an obstruction. Any vehicle parked on the road and the path is obstructing both the road and the pedestrian way.

Inform the police, in fact pester them until they do something about it. Riddlesden had the same problem and judging by all the whining in the Keighley News the police have been effective in sorting it there.

In reality all the yellow lines are not needed. It would actually make more sense to enforce no parking on the highway anywhere except a defined space. The reverse of the present situation.

I have never seen anyone parking on the footpath on Ingsway

The ones on Waterside are residents(Im not saying that excuses them) but if they all parked on the road everyone would moan that its too tight to drive past them

As a father of twins i remember pushing a double width pram down into Silsden, In some places even the footpath is too narrow alone never mind parked cars

If you want to see parking, have a look at Craven Drive, That will make your toes curl

Its an accident waiting to happen

Which will come first;

Someone knocked down on Craven drive due to parked cars

or
The bottom zebra - Forget the cars coming over the bridge, I have seen drivers looking 180 degrees the other way at the Bridal shop as they pass the zebra whilst people wait to cross completley oblivious to whats going on !

Well......

Not sure I entirely agree as the law is a bit of an ass.

A car must not obstruct a footpath.

A car must not obstruct a fire engine

A balance has to be found. Where I live this is easy as the footpath used to have grass verges, which have since been replaced by tarmac. This has resulted in very wide footpaths. If cars where to follow the 1st law I noted above, by parking only in the road, then only parking on one side of the road would be possible to be able to achieve law 2. As this is impractical and the footpaths are so wide all cars are parked on the footpaths.

Even though this in theory meets both laws I have heard that someone with a double buggy has complained that cars are parking on the footpaths. If I can manoeuvre a trailer along the footpath between my garden wall and the car then I have no idea how wide this b***dy double buggy is?

To this person, and persons similar I say STOP WHINGING AND GET A LIFE…

However for those complaining about cars not meeting both of the above, you have a valid complaint and need to report it to the authorities. Residents in streets around Keighley have recently done this, and the police took action.

Car owners … Don’t double park on roads where it would cause obstruction to the emergency services, and don’t just park on the footpath to create that space if the footpath is so narrow that it would cause obstruction to pedestrians. If there is no space park a little further away and walk.

Basically…. Everyone, think of others.

It is an offense to obstruct any vehicle from using the highway, not just emergency vehicles. It is just when they get obstructed that action is taken.

As for somebody with a double buggy having to get a life to allow someone to obstruct the pedestrian footpath?

You have not read what I have said (written)....

The footpath in question is wide enough to get 3 double buggies side by side so they have no cause for complaint. This was the particular whiner I was pointing out. As for other scenarios I did add at the end of my rabble…..
