It closed last Tuesday, simply because it wasn't making enough money I think. Sad.

I have - it was very expensive and I wasn't impressed with the "nouvelle cuisine" portions.

"Fill my plate lad" I say.

I heard that the table service went downhill towards the end too.

I think it would be nice if someone took over and kept it as a restaurant maybe bringing the prices down a little especially on wines. I did not think it was overpriced bearing in mind the quality and they did an early bird which was good value. It is nice to have somewhere a bit more upmarket that you can walk to but I suppose when people are tightening their belts due to price of everything going up, eating out will be one of first things people cut back on

A little concerning that nobody has commented how very sad it is for the owners. I know them and they are good people. I suspect it was the day to day running of the place(not done by the owners) which led to it's unfortunate demise! That said i am eager to see herself in the full leather biker garb!! Sat in the "kaff".

The comment about the people running it is not 100% true... The owner and his wife both took an active part in running it as well and as far as I was always led to believe it was a family business with both his son and daughter in law running it too and until recently his other son running the front of house service. I think it is just a sad case of people not having enough money to spend on extras and the grouse was a sad loss to Silsden in all of this.

pumba, granted its a small cosy place but if they have any business ambitions they will be looking to expand. (hence why they were asking kershaws newsagents to sell up). they could easily double/treble the number of customers by moving to bigger premises.....food for thought

Use it or lose it and I must confess to not using it enough.

Having just come back from a holiday in Spain a comment on wine prices. We had lunch on our last day in a local restaurant. We were the only Brits there, it was full of Spaniards. Food was excellent and came to around £30 a head. Not bad even considering the exchange rate, but the point is the wine - both bottles were £5 each!!!
I was told that when in the area, Mar Menor in Murcia, the King of Spain ate there. Believable as the loos were fit for a king.

wahiba-I have also just returned from a week in Spain, just a bit further up the coast in the Orihuela Costa area. Wine is not expensive in the restraunts, but when you can buy a half decent bottle of wine in the supermarkets for a pound or two it puts the £5 a bottle charged into perspective, but still not a rip off even so, especially when the food is good

I think there is good potential for the Grouse to be an establishment selling good quality, reasonably priced pub food, like the Slaters at Bradley, or the Dog and Gun at Glusburn for example. Also maybe just far enough out side the village to be off the pub crawl circuit.

this post has been edited 1 time(s)

It is being marketed as a pub but does incled this

"Externally: Large partly surfaced CAR PARK at rear (subject to Right of Way across, the position of
which can be moved in the event of development – Title Plan available on request)."

Decent is a subjective word and cannot really be considered contradictory in this context.

The Grouse Pub would be a good place for a decent Chinese restaurant. It would also be a good place for a masseur parlour, or even tea rooms.
