IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. If this is true, then why is it hard to impossible to get a mobile phone returned when it is stolen/lost? www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-21923360 Similarly, following the recent break ins in town, if the police know the identity of the individuals involved, why does it take as long as it does to apprehend them? |

All of this super technology still relies on the machine being switched on. Also. Mobile phones are manufactured in quantity so leave the factory without any information. This is added through the chip which can be removed. However - I would assume every machine has an exclusive serial number hardwired in. If this data can be traced then any phone can be traced. I am assuming hard wired means just that and the only way to remove the serial number destroys the machine. Of course the exclusive serial numbered might be changeable, or like a vin number removable without destroying the machine. There is often some vagueness around this technology especially on the ease of tracing and/or the ease of removing or changing data. One only has to see how quickly people found ways to copy uncoppyable CDs and DVDs to realise that as yet a fool proof system has yet to be discovered. |
