IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Walked up from Belton this morning, wow what a mess. Belton was under water on the corner, the back gated path from Aldi had washed down leaving all the gravel on the road. Fields awash and the beck like a torrent. We had met a man we see walking his dog and he must have been out early this morning, he said the beck had dropped by 2 foot from what it was. Coming up the main road, Marsel looked safe due to the high gabion but further up was awful. Part of the wall onto the footpath was down, the beck with no clearance under the bridges. One concrete structure which used to be some form of bridge the far end of Aldi beck had dropped by about a foot. The pavements were breaking up, tarmac at some very odd angles torn up. A wall had given way with part of pathway. All along there were tree branches and debris high on the banks. It appeared that John St. had been victim to the beck waters, with water on both sides up the ford to road level. Still more to come according to the forecast. |

The football field is under water and it is currently just short of the club house (as at 18.15 ) Don't remember it being so high before. Drains blocked down North St resulting in the house at the end of Pickard lane there taking in water. |

See we made the national news, views of the beck by post office. Pity they didn't film lower down as well. |

Looking at water levels in rivers and streams in our area all but Silsden showed a slow rise in levels. Silsden showed a series of spikes and troughs. This can only be caused by the rain falling on tarmac, concrete and roofs running straight into the beck. When new housing is built imagine how much worse it will be |

Gazzer, do you think there is any truth in the rumours going round that the quite noticable sudden rise in water level in the beck could be attributed to the automatic release of water from the reservoir sluice? |

Golden Oldie, just a shame that the clips of the beck in Silsden were described as being in Ilkley. I guess the reporter was told it was Silsden near Ilkley & she missed the first bit!! |

Gazzer, do you know where the Silsden Beck water level guage is located. It must be somewhere upstream since St.John's Street where I live is at approx.115m. The levels will vary widely dependent on the width of the beck at any given point. The highest level I have had at my location in 2002 was approx.1.6m |

The graph still showed a spike yesterday evening so some is from rain but some could be from the res. |
