IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : Local Elections for STC on 2 May 2019 |
|
| Peter |
this post has been edited 2 time(s) Why are there local elections for STC this year? I don't know who they are? How many can I vote for? Does it matter? ![]() These questions and more information about the candidates standing for Silsden Town Council can be found here: news.silsden.net/pictures/local-elections-2019-silsden-town-council Councillor Robinson (Mayor for the last two years) has resigned from the council, and Councillors Walton and Naylor do not have to be elected because they represent OUTER Silsden, seats which are not being contested, (so there was no requirement for a declaration of interest) - see the FAQ section when you follow the link above. (this is the reason these people have been greyed out from the picture above) |

Thank you Peter, that's made everything to do with the Town council elections a lot clearer. do you mind if i put it on silsden buzz. |
|
| Peter |
Please share it, the more people that know what our Silsden Town Councillors do for our community the better. I will do something similar for the Ward Council election which will also take place on the 2 May, but I haven't got all the leaflets yet. They have been promised for next week, a bit late as the postal votes have been sent out. |

Thanks will do, a nice bit of work is that Peter. |

For the Ward Concillor Election - I will add the information when I have information from ALL the candidates so that voters can make an informed comparison. |

Well said Peter. |

Hi Peter I will send you my information now. |

| Corky Yorky |
I have just checked out some of the Current Town Councillors details following your links on News.Silsden webpage and found that some councillors have failed to fill in their register of interest details at all. One example is that of Cllr Walton...there may be others but i haven't checked them all. Does anyone know if this is legal? Surely all councillors have to fill in their details correctly. The public should be fully aware of any interests. I WONT be voting for any Councillor that refuses to disclose relevant details. |

(this is the reason these people have been greyed out from the picture above) Okay..Understood Peter...BUT that doesn’t procure the fact that our Councillors are required to complete the register of Interest. Many have submitted the form but not filled it in, completely or partially! So my question still stands is it Legal for the Councillors not to fill in these declarations correctly? As I have said I will not be voting for anyone that fails to declare their register of interests correctly...and neither should you!! Well done Cllr Caroline Whitaker, Darren Edwards and Cllr Loud!! |

When do the results for this election become available? |

The votes have been declared and the one losing a seat is: Margaret Croft 293 votes 3% Not elected This is a big loss as Mags has worked hard for Silsden (the Gala and and the Youth Council amongst other things) She was the Deputy Mayor at the time of the election and Silsden will be the poorer for not having Mags as part of STC. Such are the injustices of Town Council elections. For the full results: bradford.moderngov.co.uk/mgElectionAreaResults.aspx?XXR=0&ID=605&RPID=7662500 |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) quoteThe votes have been declared and the one losing a seat is: Margaret Croft 293 votes 3% Not elected Such are the injustices of Town Council elections. Not so much as an injustice but a democracy!! However..I am very concerned that women only represent 20% of the panel of STC. We should somehow have a fairly equal representation of sexes..given that other institutions these days must have a fairer representation!! |

You could argue to find ways to get more women to stand but not how many should be elected. The Town Council should look at how their work is explained to the public then hard working Cllr's dont lose out as appears to have happen here |

Congratulations to all those elected to the Town Council. Also a big thank you to Margaret Croft for her hard work on the council and for all the hard work she does in and for Silsden.Hopefully she will bounce back soon. The new councillors will no doubt joining in helping out at the various volunteer organisations and hopefully silsden.net will keep us upto date. |

Thank you Mags for all your hard work over the years, and I hope to see you back on the council soon. |

Could someone tell me why a prospective conservative councillor has been put down as independent on election information, is it another con. |
|
| Peter |
quoteCould someone tell me why a prospective conservative councillor has been put down as independent on election information, is it another con. The official explanation (from Bradford) Apparently at parish level a candidate can describe themselves however they like, but can only display a party badge with express permission of the party. No idea why those of the candidates that were Ward Councillors, or standing as Ward Councillors, didn't declare there party allegiance as a lot did in other parish elections. |

Posted of behalf of Margaret Croft ![]() I would like to thank all those that did vote for me in the elections,I am sorry to be leaving town council and Youth council and would like to thank fellow councillors and our clerk for all the support during my 8 years as a councillor and wish all the remaining councillors every success. Thank you Mags Croft |

For the full results: bradford.moderngov.co.uk/mgElectionAreaResults.aspx?XXR=0&ID=605&RPID=7662500 It’s a huge disappointment that Mags has not been elected back onto the Town Council. She has been a dedicated supporter of the Silsden Community over many years through her direct involvement with numerous voluntary organisations. She was intrinsic in supporting and co-ordinating Silsden Youth Council, is involved with the park, the gala and our green spaces. A person who doesn’t shout about her achievements, but keeps under the radar, just getting on with the job of making our society a better place to live. I hope to see Mags back in the future. |
