This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

There is a planning notice requesting demolition of the Methodist Church.

Anyone know what the story is?

Just curious.

The outline plans have been in the entrance hall of the church for some time. Any event such as Sunday Service, A blood donor session, coffee morning etc will allow you through the door!

The plans look good, move the church forward and build houses behind. I think the houses are going to be "affordable housing" and with the location should be really good, easy walking to all the shops. The plans for the redesigned church seem to be well thought out and it looks like it will be a very nice building. happy :)

PS the existing Methodist Church building is subsiding so something has to be done.

If you have a look along by the beck you will see some large cracks and the wall isn't exactly straight/upright. I think it's probably a combination of the beck and the trees along the side of the beck causing the problem - but I'm no expert on such matters and could be completely wrong razz :p

Not being a regular visitor to god spots I have not seen the plans. Seems reasonable to me.

I only hope that whoever comes to live in the new houses behind the church realises there is a park with a rocks and ramps area close by, if they don’t take this into consideration before they move in, we will hear nothing but complaints about noise kids spoiling their peace and quite.
How about a tenants agreement to leave the kids alone?

I trust that when these new houses are built they will not be subject to subsidence...

Perhaps "grandad" that West Yorks Police will take up the latest idea and recruit 16 year old PCSO's to police the rocks and ramps.

That way we could catch the kids early with a Police Academy in Aireview Nursery happy :)

people are always moaning about the kids in silsden hanging round the streets ,i wonder what will happen when silsden Methodist church gets plans passed for eight houses next to the rocks and ramps park how many complaints will the police get about kids making a noise
i always thought the church was a charitable affair not a development company seems to me they are using subsidence as an excuse to gain from development

Perhaps the church will be proactive "chaz" and build a youth club in to the development!

Now there's a thought happy :)

this post has been edited 1 time(s)

I have to say that the new Church is a very welcome improvement to Silsden. The back of the site has not been finished, but the new Church and frontage is excellent, and I look forward to seeing the whole job done. Well done to all those involved!
