This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Hopefully after the refurbishment more groups will wish to hire the top room at the Town Hall on a regular basis. When improvement works are complete the room can be hired for celebrations, conferences, group activities, dance and fitness sessions and plays. In order to encourage this I would suggest that decoration should be light and airy and of universal appeal.
But at the Steering Group meeting held on the 4th. of September details and finishes were as follows:-
The exposed roof beams will have a matt finish so as not to interfere with stage lighting. Finishes in the ballroom are to be matt so as not to interfere with performance lighting. The preferred colour is a burgundy as this is a theatrical colour and light colours arenot good for performance space. Curtains are required in the ballroom and these need to be blackout curtains with a burgundy finish.
I believe that the hall is only hired about 3 times a year for performances. Revenue will come from other areas and who will want to hire a room that resembles an Edwardian theatre for celebrations, conferences, group activities and dance and fitness sessions?
Rather than encourage full use of the facilities I think it may alienate quite a number of potential users.
There will be a meeting at 5.00pm on 16th October in Silsden Library to which all building users prior to the refurbishment are invited to attend to provide improved local knowledge so that the building can be 'fine tuned' to meet local needs.

Can you believe how this project does not meet Part M of the building regs but work continues,

b.
at least one wheelchair-accessible
unisex toilet is pr
ovided at each location
in a building where sanitary facilities
are provided for use by customers and
visitors to a building, or by people
working in the building

For the seating its 1% of capacity wheelchair space(rounded up)=2 + removeable seats making total of 6 spaces. Hope they remember that.

As I said in a previous post, I will never set foot in the Town Hall again. As Gazzer says, it is not DDA compliant. Added to that fact, the Town Hall will be a hazard to all who use it, given the lack if space and fire provision.

As such I urge anyone considering hiring the Town Hall, not to do so!
