In April 2006 I offered the following thought "The work on Elliott St is progressing slowly.I can remember when Elliott St was an oficial free car park. Then it became normal street parking. Now we see the number of cars that can park is being halved again. Next people will wonder why the shops at the bottom of Kirgate are struggling.BUT THERE WILL BE NO WHERE TO PARK!!!!!! "
I notice the opticians has closed down!!!! |

If people weren't so lazy and walked to the shops, this would not be an issue. It amazes me how lazy people are, to the extent that they cannot even walk from the car park. I always walk into silsden and its 20 minutes for me and uphill all the way back.I admit it is difficult with shopping and I do miss the hopper bus, it should never have been stopped.Does anyone know whether the suggestion of running the 762 up howden road has come to anything? |

It still amazes me that they allow parking on Kirkgate. I watch with dismay when buses and Vans/HGV's/Tractors try to pass when cars are parked both in and outside of the designated areas.
And if i cared less about my no claims bonus i would love to turn onto new road and show the lazy **** who park on the double yellows, whilst their fish n chips are cooked, exactly why the lines are there. That goes for the Pizza delivery cars as well. |

Ahhh, but you'll realise how good it's been when the gas board digs the road up in a few weeks time |

I WOULD SAY THAT THE CARS AND VANS PARKED ON CANAL BRIDGE CAUSE MORE OF A PROBLEM YOU HAVE TO CROSS THE WHITE LINE TO GET ROUND THEM ITS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN MAYBE SOMEBODY WILL PUT A TICKET ON THEM THEN |

It is called traffic management. Rather than putting in speed humps and yellow line they rely on idiots parking to slow down the traffic. simple. |

Hi Im new to Silsden. Ever since the new chinese take away has open there is always a blue BMW parked at the bottom of New Road on the double yellow lines. I agree that if I didn't care about my car so much then i could just smash into the BMW. |

There are cars parked on double yellow lines all over Silsden. However, cars are sacred, a bit like cows in India so are not considered a problem. At least the hobby bobbies do not bother with them. |

If you care to look carefully at the lines and signs; you will see that most of them are not legally enforceable. So don't blame the police, especially the specials; that you so disparigingly call hobby bobbies, they give up their time to help the public for no pay. What do you do fot nothing to help your community? You will see in a year or so this will change, last week I spoke with a man employed by Bradford Met who was checking all the lines and signs in Silsden; so they can be made right, then when they are the council are going to employ their own traffic wardens' who no doubt will be expected to get a set number of tickets each shift. |

Skipton road is the worst carpark in Silsden people park on both sides of the road to make it a one lane road down the center. |

Lines or no lines vehicles obstructing the traffic flow can still get done for obstruction. I do not know why they rely on the yellow lines so much. They are not needed for obstruction violations. |

How do you appeal for Yellow lines
On several occasions I have almost had an accident coming from Craven Ave onto Craven Dr due to Toyota's parked everywhere, Footpaths, corner of junctions it doesn't matter, They are dumped there for weeks on end sometimes.
On old lady was almost knocked dowm there last week |

I live in what has become Toyota's carpark, I have sent photographs of the pavement and corner parking the council and have spoken to our local Special Constable. They are not interested. Greater Bradford council did say yellow lines were to be placed along part of Craven Ave to allow busses to pass. Nothing happened yet. But than when you have a Tory Government business is much more important than locals |

I dont think you can blame a tory government as its years since we had one.Nor can you blame the Con/Lib coalition that runs Bradford Council if thats what you mean. Its the fact that we are at the very edge of a council that is far too big to be representative of the people. We need a smaller council serving Craven.Nothing well ever get done whilst we are so far away from the seat of power!!!! |

So far as I am concered the Tories have been in power since '79. As Tony Ben said on question time some weeks ago "I'm still waiting for the Labour Party to come to power". However, that aside, paking in Silsden is at a dangerous level particularly on streets and avenues not designed for cars such as Craven Avenue, the use of such as a car park by non residents is causing much concern causing problems of safety and access. I agree with you totaly re-Silsden's remoteness from Bradford. Bring back the U.D.C. |

Blessed be the motorcar for it can do no wrong. Blessed be the drivers of motorcars for even though they transgress terribly they are free from retribution (see letter in last weeks Craven Herald)
It is simple: there are a lot of cars. Car drivers vote. Might is right. Simple. |

The Yellow Lines if you haven't noticed them as they are so short, have already been painted, they are the ones that come from Howden Road up both corners onto Craven Drive, approx 5-6 feet.
I have family who have lived on Craven Avenue for over 40 years, and is is nothing more than a glorified car park. It is mainly the Toyota Staff and some people that work in the mill on Howden Road that park along Craven Drive and up to the top of Craven Avenue. Apparently Toyota don't like their staff parking on there forecourt as is detracts from them selling there nice cars. There are also courtsey cars parked on the road. It would be interested to know if it is legal for a car firm to use a residential road as an extension of their forecourt. It is true of your earlier post somebody will be knocked down. What ever happened to the highway code? Or general courtesy, I am sure they wouldn't like it if we parked outside their homes all day. Why can't Toyota move to Kildwick or down on the industrial estate on the way into Silsden, surely they would gain more business? |

my manifesto, should i become transport minister for any government :-
public transport,(ie buses)HGV's and silly little korean micro cars driven by people with little heads, will only be allowed on the road between 7pm and 6am on weekdays.
pelican crossings will only go to 'STOP' when at least ten people are waiting to cross.
zebra crossings will cease to exist.
anyone without a garage and off road parking will have their licence revoked and their car taken away and destroyed.
parking will be illegal on any A road,B road or back street.(laybys and pullins will be exempt providing the do not impede progress of the car.)
there will be tax incentives for work places to offer off road parking to their staff.
a new motoring offence will be introduced called 'the slowing offence' it is the opposite of a speeding offence whereby anyone caught holding traffic up by going too slow will be dealt with strictly.(minimum fine £2000.)
finally, the speed limit for motorcycles only, will be unlimited on any road anywhere anytime!
i humbly present my transport 2008 manifesto to the house, thank you. (applause i think)

Apparently:
(a)You can park on the 'Zig-zags' near pedestrian crossings and schools if you have your hazard lights flashing
(b) You can park on double yellow lines or where parking properly on the road would cause an obstruction as long as you have at least two wheels on the pavement
(c) You can park on double yellow lines as long as you have a 'handicapped' card on display
(d) You can now park very close to (or even on or opposite) a road junction, or where it causes an obstruction to traffic, if you live nearby
- well, that's what seems to be the case nowadays! |

Saw something that I've never seen in twenty years of living in Silsden today, and it gladdened my heart!
Car parked on double yellows next to the junction on Bridge Street got a ticket. Well done Yorkshire Police! |

The even more stupid thing was that if they'd parked 10 foot away there were no yellow lines, AND the car park was nearly empty |

I sympathise about Toyota using the road as a car park, but not about them moving. It is really convient for servicing. Double yellowlines would solve the problem. All along Howden road, Ings way and all the bus routes. As for Elliot street. Parking areas are created one side of the road and what happens, they park the opposite and dangerously narrow the road. To every action there is a reaction and the reaction to unconsidrate parking is double yellow lines. It is a pity that the local authority are a bit slow. |
