This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

This is a headline from the recent Keighley News. Why doesn't this happen is Silsden? Is our nuisance crime and fear of crime not as important?

Police boost street patrols

More police officers are to patrol the streets of Keighley in a bid to reduce people's fear of crime.
According to police, despite a drop in reported crime in the division people's fear of crime has risen.
So now Keighley's Neighbourhood Policing Team has brought in more officers in attempts to rectify the problem.

Yes alan, and if you are not very careful what little you do have in silsden will be taken away to supply this extra staff in keighley. people in silsden need to report each and every crime that takes place in silsden, remember it is the sqeeky wheel that gets the grease.

Quite correct "grandad" but the article says quite clearly 'peoples fear of crime'!
What about people's 'fear of crime' in Silsden and the nuisance crime they suffer?
Why was a police station originally built in Silsden and manned? Was there more crime then? Is it better now? I think not.
There is no doubt a couple of police in hi viz jackets patrolling the streets have a tremendous effect on peoples 'feel good factor'.
Why don't West Yorkshire Police really tell us where the money goes? If they dare?

Check out this site www.beatcrime.info/beat.asp?postcode=BD200AE which shows the incidents police have called to.

Makes interesting reading Fred. But still doesn't explain why WE have less police than we used too, and why we don't now apparently need a police station!
The question I'd still like answering is just where IS the money spent in West Yorkshire and what is it spent on?

Yes, interesting facts on that website too.

quote
• Just over 2.1 million people live in West Yorkshire. That means that there is on average one police officer on duty for every 2,000 people.
If that's the case Silsden alone, excluding Steeton etc, with a population of about 8,700 should have FOUR police officers on duty!
Where are they?

Well here's where 15.6% of what we pay goes!

quote
• Currently 15.6% of the Force's budget is required to cover the net cost of police pensions (i.e. the difference between the cost of police pensions and pension contributions from serving police officers). Unlike the Local Government Pension Scheme, the Police Pension Scheme is not handled through an external fund.
I wish somebody would contribute to my company pension scheme for me!
