These are dangerous tropical fishes as we all know. I don't expect many home aquarium lovers will have missed that James Bond film and seen just how dangerous. As well as their sharp teeth and voracious appetites they have very powerful bodies. I'm prompted to write in case anyone should consider buying a tropical tank etc etc and stocking it with Piranhas. They can build up such a head of steam in a rectangular tank that they can burst through the glass wall and escape. They will not get far of course, but will chew up your carpet and more to the point any nearby sleeping cat or dog before they finally expire. My advice is to keep Piranhas in a round tank. |

quotewww.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1287272/Piranha-caught-Kent-lake-raises-fears-fish-breeding-Britain.html?ITO=1490 I just think keeping a piranha in your house is dangerous. I read the Daily Mail article and it seems they sharpen their teeth on the glass of the tank. I would not advise grandparents to keep piranhas and entertain the little ones. As for it being a safe fish to keep. I don't think you would swim in the Amazon. |

one piranha by itself will do nothing, you talk about the amazon, thats where you have hundreds and hundreds of piranhas swimming together, they will strip you bear then but only certain breeds of them, not all of them,as for keeping one in a tank,i really dont see the point, you arent doing the fish any favours, only to show off that you have a piranha to everybody |

I am on your side. I hope these fish are left where they belong. And the bloke who swam down the Amazon...brilliant. |
